For the most part I feel like I'm paid what I'm worth. I work for an insurance company and the best way I can describe my job is that I'm kind of a "debugger". I make sure that changes/enhancements to our company's car insurance computer system that are made by programmers are working correctly in a "test environment" before the changes go out the field offices and our insureds. But there have been times when I've done that work as well as be a mentor to some new coworkers. Although I loved mentoring because I enjoy helping people and I find it rewarding, I also felt like I had two jobs. There were days when I was doing my own work and mentoring that I felt I was not making enough money. I was working my ass off!! Although I don't make a lot of money, my position is at a level where I'm exempt from getting overtime pay and I averaged one Saturday a month while I was mentoring to catch up on my own work. That kind of pissed me off!!

I totally agree with all of you about the jobs that need to have higher salaries - teachers, police, firefighters, etc. Marlsy, although stay at home moms don't get paid, to me, you have one of, if not THE most important jobs in the world. Stay at home moms and dads deserve more credit. So here's to you!!

I'm with you Marsly , we don't make enough money at all!!

I love being at home with my girls! Starting to get a little bored and am considering going back to school to become a nurse. Any advice!!!

Teachers are severly underpaid big time! It's a hard job sometimes and they should be compensated (sp?) for that work!

Thanks Sheila!!!!! It isnt an easy job, but I really believe it's well worth the sacrifices!!!! I really do love being able to be here for my girls all the time. I feel really bad for moms who have to work for finacial reasons. It's tough leaving your kid with sitters!! I had to do it with my first one until she was 3 and I used to cry myself to work daily!! I hated leaving her!! I feel really very lucky to be able to be here for my girls 24/7!!

You're welcome, marlsy. I feel bad for the moms who have to work for financial reasons as well. It has to be really hard leaving your child/children.

Yeah, i wanna be a history teacher when i grow up, but its sucks knowing that i wont be making a lot of money. but i always tell myself that money isnt a factor in my decision of being a teacher.

If it is truly something you want to do, go for it!!! It sounds like your heart is in the right place! I am married to a teacher, they are so underpaid and disrespected, but he loves to teach so he stays! The world needs good teachers especially good male teachers!

Hmmm.......... yeah BUT so do many other people and they are not paid like that! I work with surgeons ALL DAY at my job, they make like $15,000 just to do a knee replacement in 2 hours, that is hell of a hourly wage hugh!!!!!!
