Killing Time

Killing Time

Black as coal, creeping shadow its role
Pays no mind to the march of time
Silent stone-cold, it slowly takes hold
Secretly consuming, unsuspecting looming

Has it made, dues he surely paid
Bites him hard, lets down his guard
Doorbell rings, ignores the sting
Bill comes due, misses that other shoe

Fathers mothers, sisters and brothers
Same old song plays to all the others

Newfound appreciation, new friend desperation
Forced smile on the outside, rotting on the inside
Hope an illusion, clinging to delusion
Inevitable to follow, promises so hollow

All options tried, fate will not be denied
Breath it steals with the sword it wields
Knows no names, blade cuts just the same
Saps the will, the spirit it kills

Fathers mothers, friends and brothers
Same old song plays to all the others

That was very sad Kerri. Have a feeling I know what what gave you the emotion to write it. This is my favorite verse:

~Newfound appreciation, new friend desperation
Forced smile on the outside, rotting on the inside
Hope an illusion, clinging to delusion
Inevitable to follow, promises so hollow~

as always though great work!

Thanks as always, Kris. I wish I could write about happier occasions, but I always seem inspired when it's something bad. Just a way to express, I guess.

That seems to be the way for most people. It's the only time I feel inspired to write as well.

Yeah! Great poem for sure Dogstar!

My fav verse is :

Breath it steals with the sword it wields
Knows no names, blade cuts just the same

Thanks, you guys .

I know I said I don't write about too many happy things, but my mom had an idea for a card for my friend's wife, about his death not being a permanent thing...I told her I'd try to come up with something, and I did , something a little more hopeful:

He痴 really not so far away
Though his body痴 left his earthly place
Close your eyes and sit a spell
You'll surely find him, time will tell

You値l see his smile on a friendly face
You値l hear his music when the robins sing
You値l feel his warmth when the sun bathes the sky
You値l find his strength when the ocean cradles you

You値l see his hope in the eyes of a child
You値l hear his laughter in a late-night howl
You値l feel his touch when the rain kisses your cheek
You値l find his love when the wind whispers your name

He痴 really not so far away
Though he can稚 be by your side your way
When you池e feeling alone and blue
Remember, he値l always be with you
