I just found out today that Rod Roddey, the announcer and voice of The Price Is Right! passed away today. I'm not sure how old he was or what he died from. If I find out, I'll let you know, or if anyone else knows let me know.

I was in my computers class this morning when our teacher had us go to cnn.com for something..... saw the article about Rod's death on the homepage. Very sad.... but I wasn't aware men could get breast cancer. It's gotta be very rare.

Heres what I found Colin!

'Price Is Right' Announcer Rod Roddy Dies

By RYAN PEARSON

Associated Press Writer

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Rod Roddy, the flamboyantly dressed announcer on "The Price is Right" whose booming, jovial voice invited lucky audience members to "Come on down!" for nearly 20 years, has died. He was 66.

Roddy, who suffered from colon and breast cancer, died Monday at Century City Hospital, according to his longtime agent, Don Pitts. He had been hospitalized for two months.

"He had such a strong spirit. He just wouldn't give up," Pitts said Monday.

Roddy had been ill for more than two years but tried to work as long as he could, said Bob Barker, host of "The Price is Right." Roddy had been with the game show for 17 years.

"The courage he showed during those difficult times was an inspiration to us all," Barker said in a statement Monday.

Thanks for the info.

According to the October 2003 Psychology Today magazine... (yes, I read Psychology Today. One of the things of possibly being a Psych major...) Anyway, breast cancer is te #38 on the rankings for cancer cases in men, with an estimated 1,300 men being diagnosed this year alone. It is also estimated that 400 men will die from it this year.

do you, by chance, know if that's 400 worldwide, or in the US? either way, what are the odds of a celebrity getting such a rare form of cancer that ends up being fatal? I could try to figure that, but that requires way too much thought.

I'm pretty sure its in the US only, but since the article doesn't specify, it very well could be in the world.

Thanks for the links, Colin and Julie. Although it is more rare, I have heard of men having breast cancer before Rod's passing. RIP Rod.
