Official Lyrics of "Open Your Eyes"
(This was posted by Steve at AlterBridgeRocks.com)
Michael posted the official lyrics: Looking back I clearly see What it is that's killing me Through the eyes of one I know I see a vision once let go I had it all Constantly it burdens me Hard to trust and can't believe Lost the faith and lost the love When the day is done Will they open their eyes And realize we are one On and on we stand alone Until our day has come When they open their eyes And realize we are one I love the way I feel today But how I know the sun will fade Darker days seem to be What will always live in me But still I run It's hard to walk this path alone Hard to know which way to go Will I ever save this day Will it ever change Will they open their eyes And realize we are one Still today we carry on I know our day will come When they open their eyes And realize we are one (solo) Will they open their eyes And realize we are one (its hard to walk this path alone hard to know which way to go) Will they open their eyes and realize we are one (lost the faith and lost the love when the day is done) Will they open their eyes And realize we are one

I guess it depends on how ya look at the song.
I looked at it as maybe a love song, but I wasn't sure..I just knew I loved it...but I wasn't hearing all the words (cause of a bad MP3 initally LOL) I guess, I'm going with the interpretation that it's about Chicago and living with the backlash/dealing with it over the last what would have been a year plus. A lot of people I know picked that up right away. So I listened to it with that in mind and it made me sad thinking about it....having been at that show, and kinda wondering what was going through the minds of the band and such...how they dealt with it. Knowing what I saw from about 8 feet away. So it made me kinda melancholy...and someone at ABB asked me for my Chicago review...and I ended up re-reading it, and that made me more melancholy.

To me this song means that no matter how dark it seems to be, you will find a light... That if you just open your eyes and if you ain't afraid people can make a difference... This is a song 'bout never giving up, 'bout a new and brighter day will come... And that day will be August 10!!

Interesting to say that it is about Chicago. hmm. I was at the show, and the song resonated with me because of the show, but to me the song really is about "Creed" reaching out to their lost band mate. To me it's about what Mark would have liked Scott to say to him, if he actually talked with him and not shut him out of his life, as it appears he has for quite some time. I see the song as a way of Mark hoping to reach an absolution with Scott. This song shows me the pain Mark faced in deciding to leave someone he cares about behind, while he goes forward with his own life, to continue to create music and do what it is he is meant to do. So I see this song showing the connection of the demise of one band serving as the birth of another. There is no doubt in my mind from Mark's lyrics that Scott's actions tore him apart. "Torn" the emotion that started it all, and started it all again.
