I don't know much about brands or what's best to learn on. Why is the Palatino the best to learn on? I say stay away from the country stuff cos for me... and everyone else i know... it sounds REALLY BAD  just too whiny and the 'yeeha' cowboy stuff takes away the beauty of the instrument.

I've played very little jazz but what i have played i loved! I just got the music from my teacher.... sorry...

Anyway shouldn't the music store person advise on what's best?
By the way, will you be getting a tutor? Cos if you are, get them first and then get them to help you get a violin. That way you're sure to get one that fits right, sounds right and suits you.

Have fun! :P
