What's the deal with Stratovarius?

My friend invited me to their show. I looked at their myspace http://www.myspace.com/officialstratovarius . But does anyone know anything of them like their history or anything?

I'm under the impression they've been around for a while... they seem to have enough albums out. Don't know much about them besides that, I was going to check out their stuff but got distracted.

I hate to bring this back up from the dead, but if you wanna check out some of their stuff Amazon has this sweet daily deal....they're offering a metal sampler that actually has a Stratovarius track on it and its all FREE. You should check it out, can't hurt right? Besides you get stuff from Deep Purple, Alice Cooper...Dio...

What I know is that Stratovarius is melodic heavy metal band, and that its founder and main composer Timo Tolkki got out and has a band called Revolution Renaissance. Next week he's going to do a workshop in my city.
