Creed reflects on a difficult year
Though the band saw the end of the year bring a Billboard Award, Creed is relieved that 2002 is almost over. It's been a year of struggles for the Florida group, from the death of guitarist Mark Tremonti's mother to singer Scott Stapp's car accident, followed by vocal troubles and numerous postponed concerts.
Stapp said "It's been a rough year for the band. I think that the biggest loss that the band could ever possibly incur was when Mark lost his mother. That's tough. It's tough for him, it's tough for his friends who care about his family, and then, from that to immediately, you know, which you can't even compare, but when you're still dealing with that and you get something that--boom--you cancel your tour with, and a car wreck and then it just keeps piling on and piling on you're like, 'When is this going to end?'"
But despite every obstacle and challenge in 2002, the band was and still is determined to deliver for its many fans, Stapp explained. "We wanna fight back and we wanna, you know, let the fans know that we don't want to let them down, so we over commit and you lose the voice, so it was just one thing after another, but, I think, you can't complain. It's just life, everyone has to deal with that, everyone has to deal with things. You can't whine."
Scott did not, however, have any comment on his performance in Chicago on Sunday night.
