"It would be great if underground bands would be like, 'F--- this underground stuff, let's take this to Russia, let's take this to Korea!' " he continued. "Because it'd be great if kids didn't have to choose between 3 Doors Down and Alter Bridge. It would be great if a band like Le Tigre would play the Warped Tour dates in the middle of America and really turn on those knuckleheads. And if they got pelted with bottles, well, then that's just part of the revolution."

I'm not sure what statement he's trying to make by that comment. Either he's commenting Alter Bridge and 3 Doors Down on their immense popularity... or he's saying that people shouldn't have to chose between two bands that he thinks is garbage.

Definitely the latter. And frankly, I'm not sure I disagree with him. I love Alter Bridge, but overall, modern rock sucks.

Although, I would make the point that HE has no business insulting Alter Bridge (or even 3 doors down for that matter) at all. It isn't like his band is any better.

TMV's decent. I'm not terribly wild about 'em... a bit too quirky for my tastes. but, then again, they seem like the types o' guys that would shun mainstream anything and favor revolutions.... fucking communists lol

I think it could be read either way, in that they shouldn't have to choose only between the two bands. Btw, I love The Mars Volta. I saw them last Sunday and they were incredible.

1.there should be better music out there in the mainsteam
2.but cedrix (i guess it was him who said it) shouldn't be blasting other bands. they are doing their best no matter what he thinks of them. we'll get omar to have a guitar battle against tremonti and see who comes out on top! LOL
3. i don't like 3 doors down but they seem like nice enough blokes.....

LOL, hide, but I do see his point, as much as I love AB. I mean, the mainstream music scene is pretty lame overall.

Then again... "The Widow" has pretty much blasted The Mars Volta into the mainstream.

i agree the mainstream music scene is in a very bad state although there are always diamonds amongst the rough. i do think its bad taste to rubbish other bands though. TMV are preddy much mainstream themselves now.....

i guess one ironic thing i found about this statement is that, TMV is plugging the underground. and a couple years ago, it would've been more significant given that they were more underground back then. but now that they're mainstream, what w/ The Widow on radio and all, they're opinions are more significant in the sense that more people hear them. the ironic twist is that they're critical of a system of which they are now a part, one which essentially gives them a chance for more people to hear their message.

well its common knowlage that once it hits MTV its platinum (not saying I hate Mars Volta I love them) but what ever happened to appriciating talent in all genres of music mind you I don't like all types of music but I can appriciate it. I reconize the talent it takes (doen't mean I buy it. just my :2cents:

What I think he's saying is, more underground bands should shun being underground and get their music out to the world. There are so many great bands out there playing incredible music, there's more than just Alterbridge and 3 Doors Down - he wasn't dissing them, just saying there are alternatives.

It's time to sell out, people!

I agree to a certain extent here......the attitude particulary from the indie sector is stupid in my view. Music is made to be enjoyed and should be enjoyed by as many people has possible. I disagree with those artists changing to suit the wants of the public but purposefully keeping a small audience is indie snobbery at best. i also don't get why people get so upset when said fav band ie: the who has their song on a commerical. who cares??? its better than listening to a crappy band on the t.v.......
