Hey guys. The paper this morning said something I know I need to prepare for. There is a possibility of more reservists being called up for Iraq, and with October being the beginning of the new fiscal year for the U.S. Government, my husband could be recalled very soon. The troops that are currently there from his unit have been there almost a year, and they will need to be relieved soon. Don has said we should prepare for this possibility sooner rather than later. So if you guys could just keep us in your thoughts during this time, we can use all the support we can get. For those of you who have family members already there, away from home, you have my full support and prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with you as well, Teri. Daniel is in the reserves and his unit has been out for about 8 months so I worry everyday as well. It's a hard thing to do and I totally understand what you're going through!

Thank you everyone, your words and prayers mean the world to me. You guys are like my family and I'm so glad you are all there for me. I feel as if I've been in denial that the possibility really does exist, but now that October is getting closer and all those soldiers over there need to be relieved, there's no sense in denying it anymore.

I am not sure about Teri's husband, but if Daniel goes, it's a year and he can come home for a little bit after 6 months. His would be a peace keeping mission, but a lot of units are different. Just depends.

As far as Don's unit goes, the air batallion from his unit has been over there for a year and are awaiting relief. He has been talking about transferring to another unit, one that actually does more with ammo and more hands on stuff (he's currently in cargo handling) and they would have a greater possibility of being recalled, but they usually go for 3 months at a time. So he could stay and possibly go for a year or transfer and almost definitely go for at least 3 months. Carrie's right, it depends and differs from unit to unit.

How soon would he go?

TeriB19
09-25-2003, 09:05 PM
Well, the new fiscal year starts in October, and he has a reserve weekend the first weekend in Oct. So I am guessing he will possibly hear something that weekend. If not, then sometime very soon after.

Teri! That totally sucks. Erin's been over there since Arpil. Some of her unit is getting R&R soon, but she says don't count on her coming home because there are no "issues" at home for her. Also, this is her first deployment so she's lower on the list. She'll most likely be there till next April. They do send us email upsates however to one contact (her dad) and he forwards it to all of us. Plus, they say mail call is the most important thing to them, so we'll have to put together some care packages! We're standing here with y'all!!!

God Aimee, that must be so frustrating for her and for your family. I can't imagine Don being away for a year, the idea just boggles my mind. One thing I can say for certain is that I will have the girls write to him everyday. If mail call is the most important thing to them, then he will have something to look forward to every day! Thank you all for your support and I'll keep you guys posted as we find anything out.

That would suck having a family member away for so long. :( Especilly something like this, it would be very frightning.

Someone here at work sadi they are not sending a new "crew" out, that they are bringing the others home for a 2 week R&R than they are going back:confused: I hope this affects you in this way Teri. I just don't think it sounds right though, only 2 weeks, man that would suck!

TeriB19
09-27-2003, 11:37 AM
Yes, Jen, I did see that a bunch of soldiers and sailors are coming home for 2 weeks of r&r but that does not mean that they aren't sending in replacements for those that are being allowed to return home for good. Don and his unit fall under the category of "eligible for deployment" come October 1.

Teri-
Any new news? I just sent a package to Erin full of goodies...
Trail mix, gatorade, powdered cappucino, animal crackers, cheese & PB crackers and 4 copies of my book! Erin is the girl on the cover BTW. I thought it would be fun for her to show off her "stardom" to the guys in her unit, and give them something to read on those long days... talk about a captive audience! ;)
