As some of you know I had a litter of kittens born on my porch last Friday night. The mamma cat has been really good about protecting them etc.. and staying around the house. She NEVER would be farther away than 20 feet if I was out there looking at them. She is known to us as the "scardy cat" I have never been able to get close enough to pet her etc... ANYWAYS.......... after 10am this morning one of my kittens was missing. :( I started to panic, looked around the yard etc... now these kittens are WAY too young to move themselves, seeing they don't even have thier eyes open yet. I watched closely and never saw the mamma cat around the house since 10am when I saw her with another cat frolicking around the tree line of my yard. So Me the nurse I am freak out and I just got back from the vets office with nipples in hand and formula ready to feed them. NOW another one is gone:eek: She has to be moving them, there is NO WAY any other animal has taken them, I live in town and there are no other animals around here. Why would she do this? I made a great home for her and put out a sheep skin bed for them and everything!:crying: They have shelter etc... and I am REALLY worried seeing this hurricane is on its way!!!!!!! I tried to feed the 2 left in the bed and they would not take the bottle, just cried. HELP!!!!! Do mother cats do this usually?:(

Yes! Mother cats will sometimes move their babies Jen;) They probably can't be to far away either:) Maybe you could try looking over by the trees, if you havn't already:P

Dogs are the same with puppies to;)

That is what the vet said too. She said that she may have a nest already for them. But why would she move them to an area in the woods from a nice cozy porch with a sheep skin bed? Maybe she is bothered with me out there looking at them?

I'm not sure why they do it Jen:confused: Maybe she wanted a more secluded place for them? Do you get a lot of traffic on your road?

Yes I get a lot of traffic. My house is kindda weird, I live in an old brick home in a historical town. I live in the town but I am surrounded by wooded areas if that makes sense:)

That sounds cool Jen;)

That might be why she is hiding her kittens then though:( I hope you find them:bounce:

Well she has taken them one by one. One loley kitty is left in the bed. She is very quiet, I am trying to see when she does it to see where she takes them, but she is like the phantom. I am sure they will be back, especially when they are ready for cat food!

Ya. If you see her come for the other one, try to follow her Jen;)

I don't have cats so I have no clue, but it's strange that they do that. Julie, you seem to know a lot about them, do you have a cat?

I saw the mamma cat take the last kitten earlier today. The kitten let out this scream as she took him by the neck and ran off with him! She went in the wooded lot next to my home. I know she must have a nest in the brush. I will not fool with mother nature, I know they will be back here to the house especially when it is time for kitten food! I am just worried about the hurricane is all!:(

Aww! I'm sorry Jen:( That is something to worry about to:crying:

Cats are pretty smart, if she is stupid enough to stay out in the woods in a hurricane with babies instead of a porch with shelter than I don't know what to say:(
