Today at school our teacher for careers came in, and we were all talking about what we would like to be.
Then she sent us off to look on the internet, she gave us some sites, to look more specificly at what we wanted to be.
I am really interested in Buisness Administration and stuff....i would like to be a reseptionist for a BIG company! cauze i have good communication skills, and i type fast.
Anyway, i'm just wonderin, what did you want to be when you were my age? (13) what was your dream job? or were you just not thinkin about ur future at that age????

When I was 13 I pretty much had my career in mind. I knew it would have something to do with writing. I always was interested in the news, and reading the newspaper was a daily thing in my house. I have to give my mom credit for that. She made us read something everyday, even if we didn't want to. I also remember begging my parents to stay up so that I could watch the presidential election returns on TV. I always liked to be in the know and keeping up to date on current events, so journalism appealed to me. I also had a couple of teachers who were very encouraging with regard to writing. I have been working in the newspaper biz for 20 years now, and although the business has taken turns I'm not happy with, I still enjoy what I do. I work as a copy editor, which means I basically clean up reporters' stories, fixing grammar, spotting inconsistencies and holes in stories--questions that need answering. I also write headlines for stories and captions for photos. I am assigned to the sports department, but I also work in other departments as a fill-in.

When I was 4 I wanted to be a nun
When I was 14 I wanted to be a movie star
When I was 24 I wanted to be a novelist
Now at 26 I work as a receptionist at the sales office of a big company part time and freelance (writing) part time.
No matter what you decide to do, a2s, just be sure it makes you happy. Yeah you need to make money but if you are miserable where you are than you're wasting your time. Never be afraid of change when it comes to your career!

Aimee is so right, A2S. Being happy in your career makes a world of difference. And don't be afraid of change. That's how you grow! And believe that you can do whatever it is you want, because it's true! You can! Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

oh thanks guyz!!!:P
When the teacher came in and started explaning what we were gonna do, i was like, "Ohhhhhhhh great! talking about my career when i aint that good at anything" and i immediatly had a negitive attitude towards it, but once i had a talk with the teacher, and she was talking about my good skills, then it just clicked..i am good at something! Communicating and typing...the perfect job for a receptionst!
It's a good feeling to have such a positive attitude towards my education for once!!!!
:P

When I was 13 I was certain I would be working behind the scenes in either the television or movie industry. I even went to college for awhile majoring in Communications Radio/TV/Film, but the money I could make working in the casino business was too alluring. I don't regret my desicion not to finish college and follow that path. I have a friend I just recently got back in touch with who DID follow that path and she's very disillusioned by the whole thing. She tells me that it's not as glamorous at one might think, too much politics and bull****. I'm glad I did what I did and I'm a happy person for it. (plus it's where I met my husband, so it can't be all bad).

Hey, a2s, I´m studying Businness Administration! College rules! So much better than high school !

Anyway, tell me if I can help you, I´ll be glad to. If I were you, I´d think of trying a job on Human Resources or Marketing instead of reseptionist. These are areas where people with your skills are recquired and are vital parts of Businness. Public Relations are good too!

Could you send me the sites you found with Businness stuff? I wanna take a look!

DOGSTAR:
Really??? I´d love to work in the sports journalism area! It was one of my dreams!!! I love sports and writing!

I actually wanted journalism or advertisement... I gave up journalism (nothing against your carreer, personal matters) and I realized I wouldn´t be good on advertisement: creation is not a strong point of mine, but I love marketing... So I chose to undergraduate in Businness and take a graduation on Marketing...

Next year, I´m planning to get a job as a intern... companies don´t hire 1st year students, although I tried to... I was called to a few interviews but I lost it to older students... I gotta improve my English too...

i always wanted to be an astronaught since i saw the challenger explosion. to me those men were heroes. since i was a huge video game freak and i loved science, i wanted to do something with science. due to resident evil and the movie The Rock, i wanted to do somthing with bio-chemicals. whether playing God and creating the horrible things or destroying them, i didnt care as long as i was involved. so when i got into high school i had planned that i would develop and career in chemistry. that was also my plan for college. when i got into high school i realized that i had a stronger passion for computers that i thoght i did. so i change my plan my freshman year, and here we are. now i am in college and im majoring in Information Systems.

since my whole family is filled with doctors, i have also wanted to be a doctor. i would LOVE to be a doctor, but i am not good enough. oh well, im better off in the comp department than the medical field.

My dream job would be to be independently wealthy and own and run a humongous animal sanctuary where all kinds of animals that need homes can come and live out the rest of their lives. I'd have rescued horses, cows, pigs, chickens, dogs, cats, sheep, goats, and any other kind of animal that needs a home. That would be my ultimate dream come true. *sigh*

At 13, I wanted to be a wildlife veterinarian in Africa (if anyone remembers Daktari with Clarence the cross-eyed lion) OR study chimps with Jane Goodall. My passion has always been around nature/animals, however I haven't always had paid work to reflect this. There are many volunteer opportunities and connections I make with people/animals/environment in my personal lifel.
It's great that you feel motivated and are thinking ahead, but don;t forget to explore and expand your discipline! I wish I had taken courses in philosophy, theology, astonomy, archery and underwater basket-weaving. HAVE FUN!

Yes, and it's a hoot. I have been in newspapers for 20 years, and have only worked in sports the last two years. I'm a sports nut, too, and I have to say with all the other crap that gets in the paper, I'm glad I get to read sports for a living, lol. Working in national/foreign would be good, too, but you practically have to give up your first born to get assigned to that desk, or be in good with the bosses over there. Never been too good at schmoozing or a**-kissing. Not my style. I'm very happy in my department, though. We have a lot of fun and it is the loosest bunch at most newspapers, which suits me just fine. Never been one for corporate attire or attitude!
Sounds as if you are on your way to a great career, whatever you end up doing! Learning never stops for me, that's for sure.

All I have to say is you have one chance at life and do what you want! Your passion!!! Well...... Ever since I was young I knew I was to be a nurse, taking care of people was just something that comes very naturally to me, and I do enjoy it, if it was as simple as "taking care of people" You never really know what the "true" proffession is until you get into it. I currently am a RN on a BUSY surgical floor, taking care of people for the remainder of their stay after orthopedic, brain and prostate surgeries. I love nursing but it kicks my ass EVERYDAY!!!! I work 12 hour shifts and when I come home I am dead. There are two other things that always were my passion when I think of "doing it over again" First I would love to run that animal refuge with ALLISON!!!!!! Animals have always been a huge passion of mine. I always see myself studying whales etc. off the coast of Hawaii or educating young people on animals. Can you imagine swimming with whales and dolphins in Maui???? Hey maybe Scott would come by with Jagger!:D another interest of mine was always criminal justice, you know like a FBI investigator? Oh well all I can say is you get one shot at it and do it right!!!;)

Jen, Souldancer, A2S, and I can all run an animal refuge together!!!! *Dreaming...*

Jen, we had the opportunity to go to Hawaii while I was pregnant with Jennifer, my oldest daughter. My mom and I went on a whale and dolphin watch (the safe ones, where the boats aren't allowed within a certain distance so none are harmed) and it was amazing to see. The next night my husband and I went on a sunset dinner cruise and as luck would have it, just before sunset we had the pleasure of cruising alongside a family of dolphins. It was awesome to see them in their natural habitat and not just at the tank at Sea World.

I am so lucky- I see dolphins all the time at the beach. I have even been within 10-15 feet of them a couple times swimming. They are so beautiful. It's amazing.

JenRN
11-06-2002, 05:07 PM
That sounds cool Teri... I swam with the dolphins in Mexico about 8 years ago THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!! And when I went to Alaska this summer we went on 2 whale watching trips and we saw 4 humpback whales right in front of us, so close the boat moved from them. And when we were on the cruise their were families of Orcas next to our ship in Juneau Alaska, pretty cool. And Allison CALL ME WHEN YOU OPEN YOUR ANIMAL REFUGE I'LL BE THERE!:D

Ladies and gentlemen, here she is, my newest and bestest friend!! JenRN!!! Let's hear it for her!:P

My upper body is in pretty good shape, Jen, but the hips leave a lot to be desired. Very typical pear shape am I.

JenRN
11-07-2002, 10:22 PM
LOL Teri!!!!! Hey pear shape or hourglass shape I am sure Scott would love ya, and THINK POSITIVELY he WILL notice you in the pit!!!! If you look anything like your personality seems he will pull you on stage and serenade you!!!! :D

TeriB19
11-07-2002, 10:31 PM
From your mouth to Scott's ears, Jen. Thanks very much for the kind words. Being pulled up onstage would be the ULTIMATE. I could die a happy woman.

JenRN
11-07-2002, 10:37 PM
I literally think I would faint if he pulled me on stage! Remember the Bruce Springsteen video when he pulled Courtney Cox on stage, that WILL be you! Could you imagine? **sigh**

TeriB19
11-07-2002, 10:39 PM
I swear to God you must be reading my mind, that is EXACTLY what I was thinking when you posted about him serenading me. I was imagining him pulling me up onstage and doing the humpty dance with me.

JenRN
11-07-2002, 10:43 PM
LOL:roll: You are too much!!!!

TeriB19
11-07-2002, 10:47 PM
Ok, let's get back to the topic at hand, Careers. My new goal for my career is to be the microphone pole that Scott dances around at the very beginning of Say I in concert. And hopefully one day I'd get promoted to the actual mic he uses (can you imagine, having his mouth on you, all hot and sweaty, for almost 2 hours??) Damn, is it hot in here?

JenRN
11-07-2002, 10:50 PM
You can be the microphone if I can be the leather pants!!!! OMG I am really out of control!;)

TeriB19
11-07-2002, 10:51 PM
Ok, you can be the leather pants, but for God's sake, can you hold yourself together please???

JenRN
11-07-2002, 10:55 PM
I just don't know!!! I got a little sweat shower from him when he shook his head at us flinging his hair back at the last show I was at. How the hell can such a sweaty man smell sooooo good? He smelled like he stepped right out of the shower! and hey can I be the bed sheets too?

TeriB19
11-07-2002, 10:57 PM
You can be the bed sheets, but if he just stepped out of the shower, I get to be his towel.

JenRN
11-07-2002, 11:01 PM
How about the bar of soap? And let's hope he does not use a washcloth!;)

TeriB19
11-07-2002, 11:02 PM
LMAO! Sounds like we both need cold showers!

JenRN
11-07-2002, 11:05 PM
I guess I should have taken a cold shower your right, seeing I have a 12 hour shift looking me in the face in the morning!

TeriB19
11-07-2002, 11:13 PM
That sucks. Just keep gazing at your clipboard with Scott's pic, that should help you get through the shift. Also, try to imagine he's one of your patients and you need to give him a spongebath!:D

TeriB19
11-08-2002, 10:07 PM
I dreamt I was a microphone, a towel and a bar of soap last night. Does that answer your question?;)

JenRN
11-08-2002, 10:10 PM
Well the 12 hour shift kicked my ass like I knew it would! And i did look at my clipboard A LOT!!!!!!! The bar of soap went through my mind many times!

TeriB19
11-08-2002, 10:13 PM
Amazing how one clipboard can keep you going through an entire shift. I'm still having thoughts about the spongebath. (sorry guys)

JenRN
11-08-2002, 10:16 PM
OHHH Yes! The sponge bath, I have fantasized MANY times about that! Oh what I would do to be his massage therapist!!!! That clip baoard is my saving grace!;)

TeriB19
11-08-2002, 10:21 PM
Now that your co-workers know of Scott's beauty, you'd better keep an eye on that clipboard!

JenRN
11-08-2002, 10:25 PM
You know it!!!!! I have found people looking through my pictures MANY TIMES!
Hey I even have one of our doctors (about 35 named Scott too) who thinks my obsession is funny and he serenades my with "My sacrifice" ALL THE TIME! What a nut! He comes in all dressed in his scrubs and says "My name is Scott too am I as appealing" Oh I hate to tell him the truth, NO ONE COMPARES TO SCOTT STAPP!!!!!!!!:D

TeriB19
11-08-2002, 10:30 PM
That's funny. Is Dr. Scott at least half-way attractive? I'd rather be serenaded by a handsome doctor than a not so pretty looking one.

JenRN
11-08-2002, 10:32 PM
Actually he looks like Kevin Bacon!;)

TeriB19
11-08-2002, 10:34 PM
I can think of much worse.

JenRN
11-08-2002, 10:37 PM
Yeah Kevin Bacon never did it for me either! But hey at least he does not look like Kid Rock! Sorry if you like him, I think he is really ugly and vulgar!!!!!! And any ways if he doesn't look like Scott Stapp he might as well hang it up!!!!!

TeriB19
11-08-2002, 10:39 PM
Kid Rock, to me anyway, looks like trailer park skank.

I used to have the HUGEST crush on Kevin Bacon as a child, like 9-14 years old. I think it was because of Footloose. But I don't find him that attractive anymore. Although he IS very well-endowed (ever seen the movie Wild things??)

But no one compares to Scott for me. Period.
