Just curious..... it is a big discussion lately at the hospital. I know everyone wants more money in a job, but REALLY think about what you do everyday, do you feel you are paid adequately? Some jobs I feel that are SEVERELY underpaid are:

-police
-teachers
-nurses:mad:
-firefighters (proffessional)
-day care workers

I know I will think of more, but when I look at people who make TONS of money and what they do it annoys me to no end!!!! For example:

-lawyers:rolleyes:
-some doctors
-atheletes:mad:
-politicians:rolleyes:

Personally, as a nurse, yes, underpaid. as far as my lawyer, hubbie, no way! HE WORKS HIS ASS OFF!!

I think athletes get paid way to much:mad: There are people dying everyday and homeless yet they get paid millions of dollars to play sports... go figure:rolleyes:

I am talking about the lawyers that get paid $7,000 for signing a couple of papers  I speak from experience! I had an estate to settle and he did a "few" things and the paralegal did most of the work as did I being the "executor" I made the calls, got the papers etc... and at the end I had to write him a BIG fat check for $7,000 kindda pissed me off!

I can't complain about my pay; it's pretty good. Some days, though, I get so aggravated and think I'm not getting paid enough for it, hehehehe.

I think that hotel maids don't get paid enough either:rolleyes: I did that for 5 and a half years and let me tell you... the crap you have to do and put up with is worth more than what they pay you:mad:

Your probably right!:D I just talk to so many people who have divorces and custody hearings etc.. and they get paid MEGA bucks for a few minutes! One friend I know had her laywer draw up a few papers for her divorce and it took 2 sessions and she had to pay him $4,000!!! I could not believe it! I guess I went into the wrong proffession.

I'm sure they didn't pay you nearly enough for having to do that. And it's such an important job! We have editorial assistants who work their butts off here, and they get no respect and shitty pay. It sucks.

JenRN
07-31-2003, 09:46 PM
I don't even want to think of what you would see Julie! Yeah there are so many people underpaid at my job, for one is the unit secretary!!!! It is pure hell when the nurses get stuck doing her job when she is out!!!! The place would not run without them.

Dogstar
07-31-2003, 10:06 PM
That's how it is with the EAs. They do a ton of stuff that many people take for granted. The place would crawl to halt without them.

Politicians -- have to be overpaid so they dont have to worry about $ so much. Poor politicians woudl only think about stealing and themselves. Look at most of 3rd world countries.

Atheletes -- are paid from the money you pay them by bying tickets, watching sports, buying sports related stuff. These are your money that you gave away willingly so why do mind?

Some doctors -- think you're refering to plastic surgesn and such. Again -- supply/demand.

Lawers -- America is country of laws, more than any other country. Lawers, like it or not, is one of mains shping factors of this country. Running around yelling 'i love america' and 'i hate lawers' is like saying 'i like beef, but i dont like cows being killed'

p.s. totally agree on teachers thou. they have a lot of education, and do important role, so yeah they should get paid more.

I don't go to sports events or buy sport related stuff;) So I can throw in my 2 cents:D

hey Julie, I'm sure you've seen some gross crap but you are chattin with two nurses. I'm sure we can compare some good gross stories. Nonetheless, if it makes ya feel any better, i always give a great tip to the hotel room maids!! Is that what they're called?

JulieCitySlicker

Ya:D I guess you guys that work at hospitals would definitely see some pretty funky stuff to:eek: Yep, they are called maids:P That is one job I do not miss!

Im a systems analyst and network administrator... i get paid 350 an hour to to maintain a mainframe and keep the network at a good status to save the company lots of money... which in turn will end up in my pocket.

once i graduate from college i *should* be at a job making between 85,000 to 135,000 a year.

straight out of high school, a few days after graduation, i took a job as a technology specialist (network architech) for a national tech firm making 45 an hour.

... i dunno, but i think im just a tad bit over paid....

IMO actors, musicians and athletes are all rediculously over-paid.
doctors and lawyers earn thier pay. even though it will cost you an arm and a leg for thier assistance, they earned that pay.

teachers are the most under-paid people out there. these people dont make career choices for the money, they do it for the satisfaction.

I wish I got paid a little more. I feel I am one of the hardest workers at my job and there are some that get paid more then me. I can't complain though, it's not horrible pay and I really like the job.

I like what I do and the money is great, but I hit the cap last year and no longer get anymore raises. My boss has been trying to raise the cap for our job titles for years and she's been hitting a brick wall with upper management. It sucks because I work my tail off for the company. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy it, it's not hard or grueling at all, but a yearly raise would really be nice.

JenRN

Yeah hitting the cap really sucks Teri! They need to at least give you a bonus or something! I give you a lot of credit, management stinks, someone is ALWAYS causing problems!

man I am sooooooooo underpaid it's not even funny!!!

I'm a full time mommy and I don't get paid a dime!!!

Hey and I work around the fricken clock!!

No really, teachers really need to be paid more, it's really pathetic what they make and they are teaching our children! I have been blessed to have teachers for my kids that really love children and love their job, at least you know they aren't in it for the money!!

police officers, emt workers and fire fighters are way underpaid too!!

Considering what I make now is cuz I'm legally blind and can never drive because the doctors messed up my vision right after I was born the $1,000 that I get each month is nice but if it was more I wouldn't complain:DI guess I shouldn't complain regardless though:embarass:

Gosh Julie. I am sorry to hear that. I didn't know that was the reason you didn't drive.

For the most part I feel like I'm paid what I'm worth. I work for an insurance company and the best way I can describe my job is that I'm kind of a "debugger". I make sure that changes/enhancements to our company's car insurance computer system that are made by programmers are working correctly in a "test environment" before the changes go out the field offices and our insureds. But there have been times when I've done that work as well as be a mentor to some new coworkers. Although I loved mentoring because I enjoy helping people and I find it rewarding, I also felt like I had two jobs. There were days when I was doing my own work and mentoring that I felt I was not making enough money. I was working my ass off!! Although I don't make a lot of money, my position is at a level where I'm exempt from getting overtime pay and I averaged one Saturday a month while I was mentoring to catch up on my own work. That kind of pissed me off!!

I totally agree with all of you about the jobs that need to have higher salaries - teachers, police, firefighters, etc. Marlsy, although stay at home moms don't get paid, to me, you have one of, if not THE most important jobs in the world. Stay at home moms and dads deserve more credit. So here's to you!!

I'm with you Marsly , we don't make enough money at all!!

I love being at home with my girls! Starting to get a little bored and am considering going back to school to become a nurse. Any advice!!!

Teachers are severly underpaid big time! It's a hard job sometimes and they should be compensated (sp?) for that work!

Thanks Sheila!!!!! It isnt an easy job, but I really believe it's well worth the sacrifices!!!! I really do love being able to be here for my girls all the time. I feel really bad for moms who have to work for finacial reasons. It's tough leaving your kid with sitters!! I had to do it with my first one until she was 3 and I used to cry myself to work daily!! I hated leaving her!! I feel really very lucky to be able to be here for my girls 24/7!!

If it is truly something you want to do, go for it!!! It sounds like your heart is in the right place! I am married to a teacher, they are so underpaid and disrespected, but he loves to teach so he stays! The world needs good teachers especially good male teachers!:)

Hmmm.......... yeah BUT so do many other people and they are not paid like that! I work with surgeons ALL DAY at my job, they make like $15,000 just to do a knee replacement in 2 hours, that is hell of a hourly wage hugh!!!!!!
