T-Mobile Hosts First Ever Concert on Alcatraz

BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 30, 2002--

`T-Mobile Rocks the Rock' Celebrate Nationwide BREAK OUT of GET MORE(SM) Service; T-Mobile, Infinity Broadcasting and VH1 Partner to Promote First of its Kind Event

T-Mobile USA, Inc., one of the leading innovators in wireless voice and data services, today announced the first ever outdoor concert to be held on Alcatraz Island.

On October 10, `T-Mobile Rocks the Rock' will celebrate the nationwide `break out' of T-Mobile's signature GET MORE(SM) service offering, providing customers across the country the ability to break free and `get more from life(SM)'. Headlining the `first of its kind' event is none other than multi-platinum artist Creed -- the first band in history to have four number one Rock Radio singles on its debut album, appropriately titled "My Own Prison." Through radio promotions and on-line sweepstakes, 500 lucky `cellmates' from across the country will have the chance to win access and get more from life with T-Mobile special guests at an unforgettable evening on San Francisco's historic island.

The T-Mobile global brand debuted in the U.S. with the launch of its GET MORE wireless service in California and Nevada in July and has been fully transitioned from VoiceStream to T-Mobile in over 8,000 cities nationwide. A unique, break-through event, `T-Mobile Rocks the Rock' culminates T-Mobile's nationwide launch and underscores the company's GET MORE commitment to deliver innovative, first-of-its- kind products, features and services to the marketplace.

Only 500 lucky winners from across the country will be awarded access passes through a variety of fun and spontaneous give aways. Beginning today, Infinity Broadcasting will be promoting the event with a series of on air promotions and give aways in more than 20 major U.S. markets. Exclusively on Infinity owned radio stations, listeners will also hear live broadcasts from Alcatraz on the day of the event. Additionally, T-Mobile is rewarding their existing post paid customers with MORE chances to win through a `customers only' on-line sweepstakes at www.myt-mobile.com (http://www.myt-mobile.com), through October 4, 2002. Another example of T-Mobile's GET MORE commitment, prize winners will receive access to the event along with their favorite `cellmate', roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, and transportation transfers to the hotel and Alcatraz Island. Finally, the `T-Mobile Rocks the Rock HotSpot Patrol' will be visiting Starbuck's coffeehouses in San Francisco to spontaneously award customers who are using T-Mobile's HotSpot `Wi-Fi' (802.11b) service.

According to Robert Dotson, T-Mobile president and COO, `T-Mobile Rocks the Rock' is the perfect signature event to bring national attention to the value the T-Mobile brand represents in the marketplace. "Just like we're breaking into Alcatraz, T-Mobile is breaking into the U.S. market with our GET MORE promise -- to deliver more minutes, more features and more service for our customers to get more from life."

Audiences across the country will also have the opportunity to experience the once in a lifetime event when VHI broadcasts `Creed -- Live from Alcatraz' in early November.

CREED - LIVE FROM ALCATRAZ????

Steve, this is TOO funny.

"Rock the rock", "break out and get more", "...appropriately titled My Own Prison", "500 lucky cellmates", "an unforgettable evening on San Francisco's historic island"

Haaaaaa, I must admit, this IS hilarious!

You made this up, didn't you? If so, congratulations, you did a great job writing it - you should write for SNL or something.

I can just picture you sitting there concocting this, just laughing your ass off.

So Creed is going to be playing live from Alcatraz on Oct 10th and they are letting inmates pick one of their "favorite cellmates" to go with them, letting them out of jail and allowing them to fly from all across the country to Alcatraz to see the show? Are there stipulations for the type of inmates? For instance, are violent murderers elligible to leave prison and get on a plane and go?

Can someone provide a link to this article b/c I can't find it.

I still say it's BS.

I am quite sure they are not talking about real criminals. By cellmates, they mean contest winners (if they are in Alcatraz the gig would be that they would then be inmates).

Learn about Alcatraz. Lots of links at this site. (http://alcatraz.san-francisco.ca.us/)

Alcatraz is no longer as real prison... it's a park.

This is the complete history of Alcatraz. (http://www.alcatrazhistory.com/mainpg.htm)

"Each year over one million tourists board the Island's ferry and visit what was once considered the toughest federal prison in America. Today, Alcatraz is one of the biggest tourist magnets and famous landmarks of San Francisco. "

quote from the site listed above.

I believe I should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, your honor. I did wrong, I know it and I feel an overnight stay on Alcatraz is exactly the thing I need to set me straight. How about Oct. 10??

allison

Yes, I admit it, sir - I thought I was being the clever one, calling the nonexistent bluff. I doubted my fellow creedfeeders, accused them of being dishonest, and now I must pay. I do not deserve an easy sentence. One night at Alcatraz is not enough. In addition, I feel I must serve as the personal servant to the godly artists performing there that night, Oct. 10th. I desperately want to repent, so please, let Scott carry out the STIFFEST sentence possible on me....

Now that was bad, I apologize to everyone on the board. I must be ovulating.

I bet that wasn't Creed's idea - probably the promoters' idea to have the crowd appear young and hip. :(

Dogstar

Geez, have they seen the number of gray-hairs (my self among them) who go to Creed concerts? They have money, too, and would probably love the idea. Grrrr, promoters.

souldancer

You are right Weathered...dang 100.5 the Zone said no,
the Creed.com letter reads as follows..GULP!!!!!!

....The one show that was unable to be moved is our Alcatraz show in San Francisco on October 10. We booked the show two weeks ago as a favor to VH1 when the previously scheduled artist cancelled at the last minute. Despite direct orders from my ear, nose, and throat specialist Dr. Joseph Sugerman, and at the risk of possibly causing further damage to my vocal chords, the band and I have decided to do a shortened set due to the fact that are 600 winners that have already been flown in from around the country that have taken time off of work and made extensive personal arrangements to see the show. Us playing this show is only being made possible by me taking an anti-inflammatory shot known Decadron that, although it can't be taken on a daily basis, will temporarily ease the swelling in my throat.

Contrary to popular belief, we aren't being paid for the show, the only reason we are doing it is that we simply feel like we must make some attempt to honor this commitment out of respect for the time, effort, and trouble that the fans must have gone through to make it to this show. The Wallflowers have graciously agreed to come and play the rest of the evening so that the other promotional, charity, and television commitments that we had made can be fulfilled.

Hopefully the radio stations that have supported these shows, the promoters that have worked so hard to promote these shows, and most importantly our loyal fans that have supported us for the last six years, will understand my situation and forgive the inconvenience that this has caused them.

I was really hoping -- and probably hoping against hope -- that the Alcatraz show would've somehow provided the basis for a Creed concert DVD in the not too distant future. That would've been sweet.

Does anyone know WHEN the show will air, if it will air at all?

I'm taking the impression that the event WILL be telivised?

Hm. They better make one HECK of a DVD...I'm talking like...4 discs, 29.99, ALL Creed Videos, interviews, articles, mag clips, and heck, why not, even an interactive video game...

PLUS...sections like ... "(How to) Try to play Tremonti", and '(How to) Sing like Stapp"....that'd be nice.

It had BETTER be good.

Or they will PAY...oh yes, they WILL PAY...

:D Haha...oh man...I slay me. :dancing:
