This is a heated debate right now in America. With illegal immigration on the rise... something needs to be done. Here in San Diego, another tunnel secretly connecting Tijuana to San Diego was found and in it, were illegal drugs. There has now been an instance, where uniformed armed men had a standoff with the U.S. Border Patrol. Due to these circumstances, I wouldn't be surprised if the U.S. Army or Marines are placed on the border.

I think something needs to be done especially in Mexico...especially if Mexican governement gives better conditions to people. There are people who are specialists in help immigrants to enter illegally in US territory.
But of course if they are taking illegal drugs to US we also have people buying these, so this is a very hard situation.

It's ridiculous and the Mexican government is now giving pamphlets giving Mexicans instructions on how to illegally enter the United States. We welcome immigrants, but not law breakers.

Oh sorry ...I used the wrong word and consequently you
got it wrong (I think ) -- I was refering to people (I dont know the name in english ) called 'coyote' who helps illegal people to enter US territory...
But seriously, US people is receptive to immigrants, I mean latins? Because I always heard stories telling the opposite...

Of course we're receptive to immigrants... everybody's family immigrated here. We just don't appreciate when people try to cheat the system to get here. Just because you're from our neighboring country that doesn't mean that you're allowed to break the laws of the United States. There are a lot of Mexican-Americans that are against illegal immigration also. The goals of the coyote is to rip people off and get as much money as they can from these people. They could care less about helping them.

Well...maybe you are receptive to immigrants...but not your governement...I heard a lot of stories from people ( most of them brazilians) who tried to enter US legally, but once at airport they were humiliated by US police after a long nterrogation, because they are latins. One of stories was from a brazilian actor who was invited to go to a movie festival...

Yeah...(I cant believe it) you are definitely right...and you know... last year we had a soap opera here and the protagonist wanted so much to go to US and she only got it though illegal means--and guess what ... people fervorously rejected the heroine:rolleyes:

I'm receptive to legal immigrants to this country. Like I've said before, San Diego has a bustling Brazilian population. If there have been a few stories of Brazilians complaining about the hastle of getting America, there is probably more to the picture. You have to look at a few things, the U.S. is being flooded by illegal immigrants from Latin America. Our largest inflow of immigrants nowadays are from Latin America (primarily Mexico) and Asia. Due fo Mexico's close proximity to the U.S. we are having a horrible problem with illegal immigration. Brazilians, and other South Americans, seem to take the proper path to coming to America. However, there is a major problem with the Mexican government. They are so corrupt that they don't allocate finances properly to their people... and they also ENCOURAGE their citizens to hop the fence. If Mexicans can get across our border that easily, then surely Al Qaeda could. If drugs can get smuggled, so could chemical agents.

Being a neighbor of the United States doesn't give you a free pass to come to this nation.

is this why everyone else in the world hates us? really... what kind of lies are being spread? even if it did happen, i doubt our government is singling out, of all people, latinos. furthermore, it's not like we're just going to let everyone straight into the country, no questions asked. people who believe otherwise are off their rockers.
yes, in some places there is a racist, anti-mexican sentiment, but most people are receptive to legal immigrants. the thought of illegals usually rubs most americans the wrong way, though. we have a system of entering the country and, no matter if you (being a desirous immigrant) think it's unfair or not, there's procedures to be followed. and while some will argue that they do the jobs that no one else wants--lawn mowing, janitorial & cleaning services, farming--the fact remains that many work here for the sole purpose of sending money back to their families in mexico. thus, they don't pay taxes on their income, money earned here in the u.s. doesn't stay here, and they also potentially use other services funded by taxpayers.

YOU are receptive to legal immigrants what is different from your governement--and Im not telling you about illegal immigrants--not even immigrants -- I was refering to people who were trying to visit US and that were treated as bandits or people of a second class...seems that latins are always synonym of bad things like drugs, prostitution or banditism...

And even though one of my sisters visited US (Florida) in 85 without any problem, I always heard from various people stories about problems to enter America.

Hope I can be lucky when I decide to visit your country ... ;)

I really dont think that everyone in the world hates you american (btw your question surprises me ...if it was from Chase... ) ...well I dont ...lol but seriously IM not lying...and most of these people arent lying ...your governement (and Im not talking only about Bush governement) clearly avoid to permit latins of entering US territory. Its not a supposition, its a FACT!!

I think its not only with brazilians or mexicans...happens everyday with latins, who awere trying to enter America legally, sometimes only to visit it.
I agree that there's procedures to be followed...they are necessaries...but also US governement needs to do it using RESPECT!!!!!!

Well, if our illegal immigration problem is stemming from Latin America... you can't blame the Department of Homeland Security for making sure all Latin Americans have the proper documentation before entering the United States. The U.S. still has one of the most porous borders in the world. Be thankful that we're not like Switzerland, where it is extremely difficult for people to immigrate there. Our customs officers don't even use respect to me when I re-enter my own country. They have a job to do... and that job is to allow people to enter the country legally. If people are showing up at the border lacking the proper documents... it's not the job of the U.S. to baby them.

First of all... every immigrant group has had to deal with shit to enter this country. My family had a tough time, as did everybody else's. There was a time when it seemed like the government wasn't as receptive to the Irish and the Italians. However, those people still did their best to come here to work legally. That's what happens when you want to immigrate to a country that was founded by immigrants... if people can't deal with it, then they shouldn't try to come here.

They don't... it's not their job. Their job is to make sure people enter here legally. They don't give you a hug and smile. The most they'll say is "Welcome back" or something like that. You have to understand that they have no obligation to be respectful to the thousands of people they encounter each day.

My country was founded by immigrants: italians, spanish, german,arabs...but I know all of them are welcome...and we treat all of them with very respect.

You're misunderstanding what I'm saying. We treat every legal immigrant to this country with respect. But when you have millions of people trying to enter America everyday, it's kind of hard for you to be cheerful to everyone. Especially if there are people who don't have the proper documentation. Let's face it, more people immigrate to America than to Brazil. In order for there to be an expedient and secure process... people need proper documentation.

You are the one who is misundertanding something...I said I heard stories from people who tried to enter to US LEGALLY!!!!!! So dont say again : they dont have the proper documentation!!!! Its obvious, latins have a very 'special' treatment when they try to enter LEGALLY your country...

Again, if our massive wave of ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IS COMING FROM LATIN AMERICA, it makes sense for our officials to make sure that EVERY LATIN AMERICAN is entering here LEGALLY. They have a process and they have to make sure everyone has the right papers. That's why they look closely at Mexicans. I find it funny for someone who has never entered the U.S. to accuse my nation of being racist. Latin Americans have it easier than a lot of other ethnic groups. A LOT easier. The Germans, Irish, Italians, Chinese, and Japanese have all had it worse. It comes with the territory.

I'm trying to explain to you that attention is paid to the immigrants that are arriving in massive waves. It is currently Hispanics that are arriving here rapidly... and unfortunately, many are coming here illegally. Much of why Hispanics are put under the microscope is because a significant number of them are breaking the law. The U.S. government is trying to change that. They are trying to encourage the Mexican government to get involved in encouraging its citizens to come here legally. It hurts the United States to have undocumented immigrants working and not paying taxes.

I have no idea where you got that from... but I, as an American, don't associate Latin Americans witih "drugs" or "prostitution." Some of the most successful people in this country are Hispanic. I've lived in Southern California my whole life and have grown up minutes from the border. Some of my closest friends are Mexican American. Why the heck do you think that Americans think those sorts of things? Is that what the Brazilian media is telling you to think?
