"In America"
do you think it's appropriate for this song to be blasting in your car stereo now that we're at war?

tru2mine has it in one. Why shouldn't you blast that song? Does the fact that theres a war in Iraq change anything? The US invading Iraq doesn't change the other problems the country has. In fact it might even be more fitting now.

I don't think it's wrong, either. Is the implication of the question that it is somehow wrong or unpatriotic to question things that happen in your country? I find that distressing.

Whats the difference from people blasting rappers/metalheads who talk about killing, and rape etc.? Blast it if you want to!

No, I don't feel its wrong. I agree with what some others have said that whether the war was happening or not, our country still has issues/problems to solve.

That is one of my favorite songs. I don't think it's inapropriate at all.

exaclty. The problem is that america suddenly get this blinding patriotic (?) vibe form the war and from the terroist attacks and whatever exposes the flaws and weakness of America, the socity, does not like it, but they need to relax and realize that those people still have have a right to expose the flaws and wrong doings of America, to a certain extent and it may be helpful to expose those flaws. |

I definitely don't think it's wrong. That song is not "bashing" America. It is just questioning certain things that are considered acceptable in our country that he does not necessarily agree with. By the end of the song, he realizes that "noone's right and noone's wrong" ... that's what makes it "America."
I will admit, though, that I did (momentarily) think the same thing when I was listening to it ... that it probably wasn't the best time to question the ways of our country ... but I got over it quickly. After all ... It's not like the Dixie Chicks are singing backups on it or anything! |
