I don't think that using Castro for an example would be too good for the Democrats I think explaining things that make up the parties beliefs or standards would be better, just the way i feel about it!

here:

picture a line...

xtreme left - .....left................|.....center....|.....rig ht....-xtreme right
_C__________OS___DS____|_SD____SL|___L(d)_®-________|
Karl Marxīs view <<<

C: Comunism - is utopic, against private property. Everything belongs to the goverment, specially corporations.
OS: Ortodox Socialism: China, North Korea, Cuba
DS: Democratic Socialism

Socialism: Everything thatīs produced by the societ must be shared equally. Socialism is a stage to comunism.

Center:
Social Democracy: the State (gov) has an important role on Health, Education, Security, Transports, Culture. For example: Brazilīs actual president.

Social Liberalism: the State has an important role on Education and Health and Security, but has a liberal Economicīs policy.

Right: Capitalism > the production belongs to the private sector

Liberalism: the State has a minimum role on society, takes care of a few things only. Individualism.

Correct me if Iīm wrong from now on:

Democrats: liberals (righties)

Republicans: liberals too on Economy (although Bush is intervening on it), but has different views on other matters that you know better than me... Republicans are more nationalists (thereīs a difference between nationalism and patriotism) and theyīre closer to extreme right. I mean closer (than democrats), but not that thereīs a thin line between republicans and extreme right.

Extreme Right:

Very nationalist, in some cases they are xenophobic, like Hitler, for example.
But that are more moderated extreme righties: like Singapure and Augusto Pinochet in Chile...

I know! thatīs why I said "correct me from now on" !

I didnīt get what you meant with that analogies part: youīre saying about just the US parties or the rest too?

Coz about the US I know I may be a bit far off, but about the rest (the non-US parts) Iīm almost sure itīs correct....

Mainly I am referring to to US analogies. I am not a political expert but I am educated well enough on policies and parties etc.... I made myself learn better so I can vote accordingly. I feel very strong about certain issues like pro-choice/ life etc.. and death penalty etc.. so I really try to educate myself on how each party stands and the people running. Sometimes I live in a very black and white word when it is mostly grey, it is hard sometimes. I am a very passionate person and have strong beliefs, I have an open mind too but on some things I stand firm, VERY FIRM!

I see. Well, I had no intention in making things sound different than what they are, and I know I still have a lot to learn (and want to) about it, coz Iīll have do deal with this matters when Iīm graduated, so if it seemed I was taking part, Iīm sorry and feel free to tell me whatīs wrong.

But basically, liberalism is a economic ideology and not a political one. People make confusion about it all around the world. Being righty is different than being liberal. Although liberals are called righties here and I know democrats are called lefties and liberals there. But as I said, democrats are on the left side of the right side... like that line...

oh, I just realized this is a messed up post, but make some effort to understand what Iīm (trying to) say.

Anyway, could you post what each party stands for, please? As Grissom would say "We learn something new everyday!"

I would feel "funny" posting what each party stands for because I don't want to say something wrong and upset anyone on here more than I already have! But basically I can give you a "general" idea:

Republican
-conservative
-mostly pro-life
-usually for the death penalty
-for welfare reform
-does not support affirmative action(usually)
-conservative views in general

Democrat
-liberals
-mostly pro-choice
-most are against the death penatly
-support, and are more "forgiving" to welfare recipients
-moslty support affirmative action
-mostly very liberal in views such as gay rights etc..

***** Marcos please understand this is a general idea it goes MUCH deeper than this, and notice I use the words "usaully" etc.. there is really nothing concrete. I would hate to quote anything wrong about this, my suggestion to you is to read AMERICAN journals and books NOT ones from other countries because they never seem to show the real picture!
