The Smashing Pumpkins -- Adore
Why do so many people dislike that album? I admit it took me sometime to get into it, and yes it is much mellower than any other of theirs, but it is such a beautiful album overall.

I love The Smashing Pumpkins, I have never heard anything that I didn't like. I am the same way with Radiohead, it took me awhile to get used to some of it, because they go from one extreme to another, but I really like them as well.

People do not like Adore, or the other CDs after Adore, for the simple reason that it's different. All previous Pumpkins' albums are harder and more rock-oriented. Adore and the next albums are all more mellow. It almost sounds like a different band when listening to those and then Siamese Dream or MC&IS or Gish ...
That would be my take on it I guess. I guess Corgan even mentioned this once. At a show in Wisconsin they played several of their hits to open the show - I think this was when Adore came out. Once they played all their hits and a few other songs people started leaving. He said something to the crowd along the lines of "Fuck Them. This is the *real* Pumpkins" and they played several non-single songs off of MC&IS, Adore, and Siamese Dream.

Julie, maybe because they split up!
You can try Zwan, though. Itīs Billy Corganīs new band! Ahmm... to be honest, I donīt remember Adore too much, it didn't get much airplay here and I didn't get the album. What I don't get is Mellon Collie has at least a song played everyday in 2 or 3 different stations...

Yeah, it was pretty dramatic too. I love Smashing Pumpkins. Don't have a problem with them changing their style. I like it when bands do that, experiment with different things. At least it's fresh when you hear it. With sincere apoogies to Bec, I was not that impressed by Live's new album because of that. But Live is Live (and great Live) so I still luv em.

I believe they broke the band up because they just wanted to go separate ways. With all the drama that happened to the band over the past few years (members coming and going and coming back again), they felt it was time to end it.
