Need some help for an English Assignment

In English we have to study on some form of language. I have chosen the language of rock music, and I need some information.

Could all of you please list bands in all of the history of rock and roll. From when it started out, at what, like 1950 something (Elvis) to 2004 (Eg. Linkin Park).

It would be greatly appreciated, just all of the bands you know, from all decades of rock, keep the bands coming.

Thank you!

The Beatles
The Moody Blues
Metallica
Bon Jovi
Creed
Joan Jett

Upcoming:

it would be a cool idea to trace rock's evolution from jazz and r and b.

Oooh, that looks helpful, thank you. And thanks Colin.

handmedown, I asked my teacher of doing something like that, but she said it's not really a comparing assignment, it's just focusing on one thing, do you know what I mean? That is a good idea though, I wish I could do that.

Okay here's another question, you know all of those 'new metal' bands that are in the industry, (Eg. Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit), would you be able to list those for me? I've got my list just need some more, thank you again!

I'll add some Hayley - (these are mostly from the 80's and 90's. Although most of these bands are still here today. Rush is celebrating their 30th anniversary this year. REO Speedwagon still tours and they started out in the early 70's.) Colin mentioned Bon Jovi - I started seeing Bon Jovi back in 1983/4 as an opening band, and of course you know they are still around and getting ready to do a 20th anniversary thing.

Motely Crue
Tesla
Journey
REO Speedwagon
Styx
Alice in Chains
Genesis
Aerosmith
Dokken
Steely Dan
Stone Temple Pilots
Queensryche
Queen
Rush
Eagles
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Foreigner
Foo Fighters
Extreme
Boston
Cheap Trick

I wish I could help you with some of the new "metal" bands. I don't know that many, aside from Linkin Park

Some news bands I can think of:

Shinedown
Hoobastank (sp?)
