You might want to check out some of these bands:

Wolfmother (www.wolfmother.com)
Cooper Temple Clause (www.coopertempleclause.co.uk)
A Whisper in the Noise (www.awhisperinthenoise.com)
The Doves (I dont know)
Cog (www.cog.com.au)
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (www.brmc.com ?)
The Von Blondies
The Thrills

They're all really good, especially Wolfmother; Best show I've ever seen.

I've already got Von Bondies & Doves (thanks, anyhoo, tho!)
Found some Thrills & BRMC just now.
Looks like finding some Stuck Mojo, Wolfmother, CTC, AWitN, and Cog is gonna be a bit harder. I did listen to Wolfmother's songs on their site... you were right, they are quite excellent. So now I'll be quite pissed if i can't find anything from them lol.

RMadd, have you tried WinMX? That P2P seems to be pretty good for finding lesser known music. I use it and can find anything that I want. I hear DirectConnect(DC++) is also excellent for finding music. I haven't used it, though. Only downside to DC, that I've heard, anyway, is that you have to share a certain amount of files to gain access to a certain hub or whatever that's called. But, like I said, I hear it's an excellent source, so you might want to consider it.

yeah, I tried WinMX awhile back, but I've since discontinued use of it. see, on-campus internet usage is restricted to 5 Gb of downloads in a given 7-day period. WinMX, for whatever reason, would permit uploads while the song was downloading. also, the number of songs I tried to DL also went hella slow (it's possible that the campus internet supervisor--ResNet--has blocked the program). the program I currently use (Ares) is not blocked and does not permit uploads until the song is fully downloaded. Perhaps I'll give WinMX another shot next year, after I move off-campus.

Stuck Mojo:
1. Some examples: http://www.metal-reviews.com/smojo.htm
2. More MP3 examples: http://www.mp3.com/stuck-mojo/artists/166179/songs.html
have a listen to this first and you can decide if you like them

You can unshare the stuff, so that way uploads won't happen. It's what I do, and nothing gets uploaded from me. Also, if the PC has a firewall, you need to check "Make a secondary connection to the network" for WinMX to work properly. Both things can be easily done and I believe they'll solve the problems you had, should you decide to try WinMX again.

well, i reinstalled it. tried to connect as secondary. didn't work. and when i connected as primary, the searches i did wouldn't work.
also, if it's anything like the program i'm running now, it doesn't let you select whether you want to share the file or not until after it's downloaded. which doesn't solve my problem of people uploading while it's still downloading (which hurts my bandwidth consumption)

It's not like the other one you're using, though. I've never had anyone upload a file while I'm still downloading said file. As long as you don't share the folder to which you're downloading a file, you won't have people uploading from you or uploading that particular file. If it still doesn't work, I'd recommend going to WinMX's web site.
