turn your E knob towards you until the tuner registers it as a D.

If you want to check it, fret 7 on your guitar and it should sound the same as your A string

this is probably a dumb question, but since turning the knob towards me makes it lower, how am i supposed to make the E sound like D, i thought D was higher?

i'm trying to use my electric tuner and the strings are

6E, 5A, 4D, 3G, 2B, 1E

i'm lost

(i'm obviously not good at this kinda stuff)

the d your looking for is lower than the E, on an actual scale you are right, but with how the strings tune when you turn the knobs, it's not note by note, it skips as you turn it more and more, in this case, if you turn it towards you for usually one full turn it'll be D.

If it's right, it should sound an octave lower than your D string

A - A#/Bb - B - C - C#/Db - D - D#/Eb - E - F - F#/Gb - G - G#/Ab - A
E is 2 semitones (a tone, or a whole step) higher than D.

Thats why you'll see things that say "tuned 1/4 step, tuned 1/2 step and tuned 1 step down."
