David Beackham - US superstar?
Who the hell is Beackham? Ha ha ha
Since David Beckham signed for LA Galaxy, there has been contrasting opinions on a number of issues. The issue surrounding his 'status' in the US has interested me greatly. I'd like to ask the American based members 'What is David Beckham's status in the US?' MLS commissioner Don Garber said "David Beckham is a global sports icon who will transcend the sport of soccer in America." Anyone agree? It's been reported that Spielberg, J-Lo and Rod Stewart have splashed out $800 for season tickets after Beckham signed. Beckham will earn $250 million over five years. Including endorsements, that's around $1 million a week! How does this compare with other American sport stars.

Re: David Beackham - US superstar?
Well, I'm not much of a soccer fan, and I know who the guy is. He's been in the celeb mags and news as well over the years, so I'm thinking he's fairly well-known. Despite the increased coverage/interest in the last World Cup, I still don't think European football has made it to water-cooler discussion in
America just yet.
