Self-made TrueTones?

How does one go about using one's own personal mp3 files to create a TrueTone ringtone (not those crappy midi files, but the real deal)? I've got all sorts of songs I'd love to use, but I'm too cheap to buy any and in scouring the selection of free ones, I haven't found many good ones.
