Why Creed???....
I was just wondering why Creed was such a popular band in the late 90s? I mean, I know why I love Creed, but I was just curious if other people feel the way I do and if the band has a special meaning to them.....To me, every song has a meaning, i never knew rock music could until I heard Creed.....
You guys must think I'm a dork to talk about this....

Re: Why Creed???....
i think creed was just popular just because their sound was mainstream, mostly.

Re: Why Creed???....
It was a combination of things. I think they were a little more old-school compared to what was popular at the time. All that nu-metal crap was out at the time. Creed was more back to basics, I think that's really why they caught on.

i agree with nagpo, it's because Higher and WAWO were two songs that pretty much everybody loved and just couldn't hate. They also appealed to a very broad audience. just look at how diverse this board is, there's people from everywhere and from all ages.

Re: Why Creed???....
Well I know some people who absolutely loathe Higher and WAWO. I can understand not liking WAWO (I'm not too fond of it anymore either) but I don't understand how you can't like Higher. Maybe it was all the overexposure.

Not necessarily sad. He was really at the top of his game back in the day. |

Re: Why Creed???....
I think it was a combination of the talent, the times, and luck. Tremonti wrote some awesome riffs in Creed, Phillips and Marshall added their own touches, and Stapp wrote some great lyrics, not to mention how good his voice was(during the MOP/HC days). And the music, particularly from HC on, really appealed to the masses. "Higher" made the band well known among the majority of people, and songs like WAWO, MS and OLB only solidified Creed as one of the biggest bands for their time. And when Creed came around in the late 90s and took everyone by storm, rock radio was pretty dismal. It was after the grunge period, but before all of the "rock" bands that came along during the late 90s/early 00s. Creed basically rejuvenated mainstream rock. And, of course, there's that whole luck factor. Everything had to fall into place for Creed to become big. It was like catching lightning in a bottle.
Regardless of the reasons for their success, Creed was a special band for their time.

Re: Why Creed???....
maybe b/c they had a positive message in a genre that tended to be filled w/ stuff that wasn't so uplifting... that's why higher & wawo were as popular as they were, imo....

Re: Why Creed???....
yea i guess, its like people have said that their music appealed to the masses
not to mention the start of the modern rock era... even with the whole "Scott Stapp sounds like Eddy Vedder" thing, Creed still went on to accomplish great things for a band that released only 3 albums... im glad they changed their name though... Naked Toddler is not the best name for a band... lol

Re: Why Creed???....
RIGHT ON!, it was nice to hear something that wasn't all negative. I think Alter Bridge and Scott Stapp are still providing some uplifting music.
