WMA vs. MP3

So, I've got this nice little Creative Nomad MP3 player, and I noticed that I can get a crapload more songs loaded on it if I use WMA instead of MP3 (and the WMA ripped at 64 kps sounds better than MP3 ripped at 128 kbs -- and at half the size!) SO, which do y'all prefer?

I like MP3s the best. The reason is that it seems like more devices recognize MP3s. Quality wise, I think they're equal.

I, personally, prefer WMAs. I rip all my CDs to my computer using WMA.

Who even listens to MP3 at 128kbps? Would've thought the absolute minimum standard these days is 192, while everything SHOULD be --aps or --ape. WMA isn't even in the same ballpark as MP3 or OGG.

judging from what i see available on my programs for downloading, quite a few people still rip mp3s and 128 kbps. i know it doesn't sound great, but 128's prolly what you've gotta have everything at if you wanna fit 10,000 songs on your 40-gig iPod, etc. i've got a 40-gig creative nomad jukebox zen xtra, and my 41 gigs of music (just over 10,000 songs) won't all fit, quite naturally.

You have 41 gig of music!? Whoa! I just don't like enough music for that! 10000 songs!? Holy hell!

Still, does one really need ALL their music on their Ipod? WMA may offer more compression, but I want to hear the music sound good, not fit as many songs as possible on my mp3 player. I found an old CD (Filter's Short Bus if you must know) that was made with 128kb mp3s and compared it to the real CD and was shocked at the quality difference. I then ripped it at --aps and the difference is negligable, but the 128 CD was just painful to listen to!

I don't like Lossless formats too. What a waste bandwidth.

Well, after some time, I've come the conclusion that MP3 is much better than wma. The sound quality is better. I've completely ripped my entire collection (125 CD's) onto my hard drive as MP3's. Now, I'm just waiting for my badass Dell DJ 20 gig unit to come in.

MP3s are by far superior. Mostly because you can't burn WMA files onto a music CD (or at least not with my program). But I can rip WMAs on my computer, so I do have some of them. Plus they're a lot smaller in size.

I really don't care about space, i have a 250 gig external hard drive so space really isn't an issue.

I seriously doubt that...
