Joe Satriani
Anyone who likes guitar instrumental music ought to check out Joe Satriani, he weilds his "Axe" like no other guitarist i've ever heard.
There are rumours he taught Steve Vai how to play, although I've never heard any of Steve Vai's music or even seen a picture of him, so that rumour might be untrue. However, Joe Satriani has an amazing style of playing, does a whole range of different guitar-based music from pure rock, to blues, etc. He has at least 6 albums out that I know of, one of his best being the early "Surfing With The Alien" album. He's got amazing tecnique, but he's pretty boring in my oppinion.

He's not everyone's cup of tea, granted, and i think he's running out of ideas after his 6th album, but when i'm in the mood for listening to something mellower, he's the one.
