top artists come together for nobel prize prisoner

Live tracks from Pearl Jam, R.E.M., Ben Harper, Paul McCartney, Bonnie Raitt and Indigo Girls highlight the track list for "For the Lady," a benefit album for imprisoned Burmese peace activist Aung San Suu Kyi. Due Oct. 26 via Rhino, the double-disc set also sports an exclusive track from Tom Morello's Nightwatchman guise and a Spanish version of Sting's "Fragile."

Kyi, who won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1991, has been under house arrest by the Burmese government for 14 years. Another political prisoner, Mun Awng, penned the album's final cut, "Tempest of Blood."

Other artists who have donated songs to the project include U2, Coldplay, Avril Lavigne, Ani DiFranco, Bright Eyes, Peter Gabriel, Eric Clapton, Travis, Guster and matchbox twenty. A syndicated radio piece is in the works with contributions from select acts plus Amnesty International founder Jack Healey.

Proceeds from "For the Lady" will be donated to the U.S. Campaign for Burma.
