How RHCP can even be thought of in the same sentace boggles the mind. You really must have no idea of what the Beatles did.

Its a f'ing methapor, it is clear that the The peppers are not on the same level as the Beatles. They changed the face of music, and inspired a generation. But if you think about it the peppers have basically inspired thousands of musicans. IF you ask any bass player that is about my age who inspired you to become a bassist? and 7 out of 10 times you will get flea. The peppers have been able to incorperate so many different genres of music into their sound that most likely if you like any form of rock and roll you will like the peppers. If fact one of my friend generally hates rock but loves the peppers. WHy is that? Because they have universal appeal like the Beatles did.

The RHCP's also were able to change the face of rock music by fusing funk, punk, alternative, soft rock, rock, Hard rock, classic rock and various other forms of rock into somethingthat works. In fact the basically inspired, rap metal, funk metal and other genres to this day.
Ever heard of:
Primus
Rage Against the Machine
Sugar Ray
311
Sublime ?

They were all insprired by RHCP's.

While ill agree that they aren't nearly on he same scale as the beatles they sure as hell has a pretty big impact on rock as we know it.

No.

I can think of at least 50 bands within the last 20 years with more influence on rock music.

Give me one of them then.

You can't count Nirvana, because they are done.

That's bullshit that you can't count Nirvana. Please...influence is influence whether the band is done or not...and there are much bigger bands from more than 20 years ago who had a big impact on rock.

Here are some of mine of the top of my head:
Metallica
U2
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Alice In Chains

albums like BSSM were great but the last couple of albums could have being better. john's solo work is better these days and flea could do better. i think anthony holds those guys back in all honesty.

I'm not going to argue because you can obviously site all this stuff that I really couldn't care less about, plus I do like RHCP, but comparing ANYONE to the Beatles is just foolish and show's you have no idea about what those 4 Merseysiders did.

edit: AND it was a similie, not a metaphor.

Is Zeppelin, floyd my generation? I am 18.

No i didn't think so.

Metallica- Ill agree that Metallica is up there , and most likely a beatles like inspiration. Even though their last 3 albums have blew and really haven't inspired anybody except to blow chunks.
Alice in Chains- No, just no. Nirvana had more influence on rock as a whole than AIC did. The only band that i can think of is Godsmack that AIC inspired.

U2- While inspiring, hardly inspiring to the modern rock scene, can you name any bands (besides Stapp) that has been inspired by U2?

Except the last album was more focused on guitar and they wanted to try something new. By the way was still an amazing album.

Californication most likely in the top 30 of greatest albums of the 90's. SImply amazing album. BSSM is a great album too.

Illl agree that fleas' playing has taken the back seat, but he is doing it on purpose to let john shine. Flea is still amazing, and the construction of his parts are awe inspiring.

Go listen to some of it and then listen to Soundgarden and even Alter Bridge, Big Wreck/Thornley and countless other bands. How many singers left and right have been influenced by Robert Plant? Open your mind.

Again, expand your mind. Listen to the guitars. A lot of bands, even though they can't match AIC (Nickelback, Default, Days of the New, Dust For Life, I could go on and on), owe a debt to Jerry Cantrell, who, by the way, borrowed from his influences and the generation that came before him (Zeppelin, King's X, AC/DC). Again, expand your mind. And I never said they had as much influence as Nirvana, only that they had more influence on current rock in general than the RHCP.

You are truly misguided. RHCP had little influence over Rage. Morello's guitar is light years ahead of Frusciante and Flea combined. NEVER place those two bands on the same loft. They do not belong together. Californication is not the band's best work, let alone anywhere near the top 30 of the last decade. Not even close... top 300, maybe... maybe. But even that's a stretch.

Bands inspired by Alice in Chains/Layne Staley:
Monster Magnet
Candlebox
Kyuss - bassist rivals Flea
Deftones
Creed - on many levels
Velvet Revolver
Foo Fighters
Queens - Nick Oliveri OWNS flea, end of discussion
Fu Manchu
Seven Mary Three

The peppers stirred a bit in the 80s, I'll give you that, but they faded into medicority in the 90s.
