NO...he does it on the cd also.....i am 100% sure...i have his Sig Wah and play that solo all the time.... you kno that weird scratchin and knida winding-down sound...that's from the wah... no doubt about it... he plays it (on the cd) the 2 times before the bass part...but on the 6/7 7/8 he pushes it down all the way....and after the bass part...he doesnt use it at all a couple of times...and then when it gets louder and stapp sings harder...then he uses it again.... trust me....i kno what im talkin bout...

there are absolutely no solo's in the following songs (coming from the posts above):

What If (i don't think the bridge is considered a solo since the bass player plays it too...)
Signs
Higher
Ode

My favorite solo's are:

Illusion
Pity for a Dime
Stand Here With Me
Beautiful

tremonti, although that could be a way to play it, this is how it really is: (palm muted w/ wah-wah)

D0-----0-----0----0-----0-----------0-----0-----0-----0

yeah taht's true...that IS how he plays it live..tho...i find it kinda impractical...i find it easier to just play on one string...but Mark can certainly pull it off the way he does it...

Mark does play it on one string. Watch the video, live videos of it. The tab book, other tabs have it as spread over 2 strings.
I also find it more practical to play it on 1 string.

its not practical. why would you want to go all the way up to the 12th fret when you can just play the 5th fret? the 6th string on D is very loose and it can easily fall out of tune at the touch of a fret. the A string is tight and wont fall out of tune like that. plus its much easier to play it on two strings, especially when you have to reach up to the 4 and 3 strings to play the end of the riff.

IMHO, playing the interlude on one string is easier. And if you had a guitar as good as Mark's, falling out of tune shouldn't be a problem, anyway.
All I can say is that it's easier for me and my playing style, any maybe impractical for you and your style.

yeah...plus....IMO...The Low D sounds better BECAUSE it's looser... you sorta get that funky/chunky bass feel w/ it(= sweetness...)

Well, looking at all of Mark's music, he only has a couple of solos. They are as follows:

My Own Prison
Pity for a Dime
Illusion

Beautiful (It's a short one)
Say I (It's a very short one, right before "Frantic Faction Focus" ...)
With Arms Wide Open
Inside Us All

Stand Here With Me
Don't Stop Dancing

Most people tend to refer to the absolutely bad-ass and ( I think ) creative interludes, and a few bridges too. These are it, from what I can see.

Torn
Ode
In American
Unforgiven

What If ( both of them, first one is the interlude after the second chorus, breaks for a bass interlude, then starts again palm muted, Scott starts with -- 'Cause what consumes your thoughts controls your life...so I'll just ask a question...etc etc...the second is a bridge, begins right after the end of the interlude, and also reappears after third chorus, with Scott screaming "What If, What If, What If, What If I...)
Wrong Way
Wash Away Those Years (short little blurb before the "For we have crossed many oceans...)
Who's Got My Back Now
One Last Breath
Weathered

Young Grow Old
Is This The End
To Whom It May Concern

Everything else qualifies as a riff/melody/intro/outro

My favorite solo's are as follows:
Pity for a Dime (Definately his best)
Illusion (Close, but Pity's is too cool)
Stand Here With Me (Most noteworthy solo since My Own Prison, possibly the high point of the entire Weathered Album, musically.)

Interludes and bridges --
What If (The Interlude)
Unforgiven (Definately awesome)
Wrong Way (Both the interlude and the bridge are *so* incredibly badass. Personally, I think this is one of Mark's best and most creative songs to date.)
Torn

Yep, Mark's doing pretty well, considering he is the rock *god* of Drop-D.

Great post, Solidus Ardet. I have to agree with all those interludes quoted. They are probably my favourite interludes.
