Trippy.

On a lighter side, I see Christmas as just another day. It does have a certain appeal, however. For one, good food! Two, presents of love. Three, usually a good basketball game on. Four, being around family. Every day has its own appeal if you learn to treasure it.

True, but it is a special day/time for me because it's the one time of year I get to see my whole family, which is large. That's the best part. The food is right up there, though, especially Christmas cookies. Oh boy, did I feast on those.

Other holidays that bug me are Mother's Day and Father's Day. Not that I don't want to honor my parents, but putting pressure on people to buy gifts, cards, flowers and what-not really irritates me. We should honor our parents all year long, not just on these days. The same goes for Valentine's Day. I refuse to even acknowledge it. I have girlfriends who freak out if their significant others don't go out and spend a ton of dough on jewelry or clothes, a dinner or some other night out. I find that appalling and the expectations completely unrealistic. There is too much pressure to spend all year long.

I'm feeling you. Yeah, that pressure to spend is misleading. What makes Valentine's Day special, is the idea of many people sharing love at the same time. Who says you need to buy gifts? Just go up and kiss someone.

I once learned that Christmas is, in fact, a 100% Christian holiday that was placed on (or near) the date of a renowned pagan holiday many centuries ago in hopes of converting believers by offering a more enticing celebration. But it, by no means is pagan. It's intent has become greatly distorted in the past few decades, however.

I actually heard from somewhere that Christ was born on April 1st wich was turned into April Fools Day , way back when. Then they made the day of celebration for it on December 25th.
