I don't want to get into this debate here, but again it all comes down to morals. The Superbowl is a family event. People watching the Superbowl were doing so with the expectation of family-appropriate content. Janet Jackson revealing herself is not family-appropriate. Impressionable children who don't have someone to tell them right from wrong see sex and violence on televison and in music and are influenced by that. I for one never watched violent movies or sex on televison when I was younger. My parents had morals and rasied me with them. So far I've graduated high school, graduated college, haven't been arrested, etc.etc.etc. This is the problem with our country. There are no morals in this country which leads to people lashing out in society.

but Steve, today porn, for example, is available for any child that makes a typo on google, for example.

The Superbowl thing was too over reacted, as if Janet was the problem. She's the tip of the iceberg. Today kids initialize their sexual life much earlier than 10 years ago. There are a lot of other examples like that on drugs and violence that people know about it, but pretend are blind.

2 years ago, Britney defended being virgin. Today she appears naked on her music video. Tatu video show them kissing. But none of them were censored as Janet Jackson.

I don't think that the fact it was a "family event" makes it worse. Indy 500 is a family event and yet they have that boobies contest. So you won't take your children to watch it live? I don't think so...

Yes porn is freely available by typos. You are missing my point. The whole issue is about morals. If parents raised their children with morals, these wouldn't be issues. Children should not be freely roaming the Internet without supervision in the first place. I don't watch auto racing, but if they have boobie contests at the race then I would not bring my family to it. It's something children should not be exposed to until they are ready to handle it.

And Marcos, there's a difference between women wearing next to nothing on a music video on MTV and Janet Jackson exposing herself on a national network during primetime at a family event.

BTW, I agree the Superbowl incident was blown way out of proportion. The news media dragged the story on and on and on. That does not take away from the fact that it shouldn't have happened.

I see your point. I'm not saying it's ok it happened. I mean that people have to react the same way in every case, and not over react a few cases and turn blind to others.

I think parents should raise their children with morals as well. But if I take my son (if I had one) and he grabs a Rolling Stone mag with a semi-nude girl on the cover, that doesn't mean I won't ever take him to a bookshop again. My role as a father is to teach my son to deal with this situations, and not to raise him as if he lived in a bubble.

Yes, Marcos, but it should be when it is appropriate age-wise. That's the problem I had with the Jackson and Timberlake's stunt. While I personally was not offended (I did think it was rather crass and stupid, though ), I didn't think my 11-year-old nephew should have had to see that. It was the timing and the event, as Steve said. You're not expecting to have your child have to see something like that at such a young impressionable age.

I agree it was a total lack of taste to do that, but if a classmate of your nephew takes a playboy to school, his parents won't be there to spare him. Such things happen and when they happen, I honestly think it's better for them to be with their family than with strangers.

My boss's niece said the other day she was depressed coz she had cellulites (sp? I meant wrinkles - women stuff!) and she didn't want to leave the house due that. The thing is this little girl is only 4 years-old. where do kids learn this stuff? No matter how parents protect them, shit always happens...

You made my point, Marcos. Parents can't control what their kids see and hear when they are out and about, which is why so many got upset because at least when they're home, they can control it to some degree.

Marcus I'm not saying kids need to be kept in a bubble. I'm saying that parents need to monitor their children at certain levels depending upon their age. A 16 year old can most likely handle MTV but not a 10 year old. We all know kids are going to experience things on their own at school, with friends, etc. but that doesn't mean that I should go and buy my children a porno magazine to prepare them for the real world. I'm saying that at certain ages children should not be encouraged to watch sex and violence on television. If at home a parent enforces a rule not to watch MTV, the child will have a stronger basis than if the parent doesn't care. It's all about parental involvement which is what the USA lacks nowadays. Parents expect the TV to be the babysitter.

I know you didn't say that.

Look, I really do agree with you. But unfortunately that's not the way it happens today.

I'm just saying parents needs to adapt to today's reality. I'd really like to raise mine the way my parents raised me, but I don't think it'll be possible coz things are changing really fast and values are being forgotten. 10 years ago nobody would imagine a priest could molest a child... Parents need to be ready and be pro-actives to stuff, not reactives. (if the expression is correct! )

And I didn't say I'd buy porn for my son either! lol! just to make it clear! hehehe
