Is anyone else having this problem? - WinXP related

I can only spend a few minutes online before I get an error message that says:

This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM

Time before shutdown: 00:01:00

Message
Windows must restart becuase the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly.

It does this to me every few minutes after restarting if I'm connected to the internet. After spending about an hour on hold on the freggin' Compaq Tech Support line, the rep told me of a patch downloadable from Microsoft.com and 3 other options. I downloaded the patch, and so far it seems to be working. I've also contacted the e-mail help, and hope to hear from them soon.

I got a phone call from my sister in Utah earlier today who was also having problems and error messages, before I experienced any. Is this happening to anyone else?

No it's not the DSL. It's happening with computers all over the world.

There was a story on the news tonight about it, and right as I turned the news on was when it ended. Click the following link and follow the onscreen instructions to download the new patch. Click on #3 if you have Windows 2000 or #4 if you have Windows XP. Then install the program.

Yes, this thing is going rampant.

If you have a "borrowed" copy of XP... be a bit weary of downloading windows updates. They could run a stolen serial number check. You can also do a search for msblast.exe on your computer. And always... always, be running a firewall.

start updating sweetheart... this will get ugly.

Fortunately, the self-replication segment of the worm is not activated so it has not spread widely yet.

heh, thats the good part.... if you want to know how to get rid of it for good... Cleaning up after the MSBlast worm

Mullet! You rule, dude! Thanks for the new link for cleaning up. I didn't need to do it to my comp, but I fixed someone else's computer today with it, as well as finish talking my sister through it over the phone.
