Volunteering

Anyone on here do any volunteer work? I have done some in the past through the Red Cross and other organizations. But I do have to admit that the most exciting I have had is soon to come thanks to Teri giving me some great info! I am going to volunteer at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington DC. If anyone knows anything about our military this is THE PLACE!!!!!! This is where Jessica Lynch came home to heal after she was rescued etc... Well not only am I going to go and visit the soldiers but because I am an Registered Nurse I have double the duty. I am going to go and take soldiers out on day passes to lunch, shopping etc... for those able to go. I get to take them in my car and go places. I get to be involved in lots of other activities as well. I am so damn excited I can barely stand it. I am so into supporting our troops and to me this the the ultimate way of showing support! I have to go through all kinds of background checks etc... but hell it is worth it to me. Thanks Teri for the info, this is so exciting for me!!!!!!

Jen, I'm so glad you were able to take that info and use it in the greatest way I could ever imagine! That's fantastic news and I wish you the best.

I don't do any volunteer work, but I'm on our Employee Community Relations committee where I work and we do lots of work with charitable organizations throughout our area. I help to organize teams for the American Heart Association Heart Walk, the March of Dimes WalkAmerica for birth defects, as well as the United Way fundraisers.

Jen, that is soooooo cool! I'm sure they will appreciate your kindness. I have done volunteer work over the years, at soup kitchens and for fundraisers such as the March of Dimes WalkAmerica. I'm not doing any at the moment, though.

That's so fantastic, Jen!! I know all of the soldiers will really appreciate and enjoy the time you spend with them. I haven't done any volunteering recently but I'm looking into a few of our local hospitals here in the area to see about helping out with babies who need extra tlc and holding them while sitting in a rocking chair. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time and I figured there's no time like the present.

Jen you are very welcome! You were the first person I thought of when Don sent me that email!

Sheila, good luck, I can imagine that would be very rewarding!

That is totally awesome, Jen. I am so happy for you. Please keep us posted on it.

I do not do any volunteer work, but I think it's a great idea. I should look into it and see what I can do. I think it would be great.
