Re: The Great Divide vs. Alter Bridge

Stapp has stated before that he and Tremonti are far better together than they are apart - I have to agree with him.

I have listened to ODR and TGD a number of times and it's clear that neither Scott or Mark need each other to create good music. However, I do find that in their respective albums they do miss each other.

Mark's music ability is incredible and Scott's voice really accentuates lyrics - far better than Myles (who I believe is technically better).

I actually prefer Mark's guitar work in Creed. He displays more talent in ODR, but his work in Creed had more substance.

ODR is better musically, TGD is superior lyrically. As for vocals - Myles better technically, Stapp better.....because I prefer Stapp's voice.

yricaly, TGD is extremely inferior and I am quite disappointed by them. Stapp songs on TGD do not seem to be writen by the same guy that wrote Faceless Man or WTLF...

I always disliked TGD single, but I had a hope that the others songs could be more 'consistent'.

I still can listen to ODR after all this time( I bought that cd a one year ago), but I barely remember when was the last time I listened to TGD...

Thats quite funny because I would say the complete opposite to what you said.

Being a musician and songwriter myself.

To me The Great Divide seems so different.
I love both albums for different reasons but loved Creed better.

But odr just after the first 4 listens just seems continuous like from start to end it's the same.
ALMOST every song after a while just sounds the same as the others.

But with The Great Divide you remember different songs for different bits and it's just hard to explain but it has a similar effect to creed.
You have a favourite bit in every song.

The songs are much more different compared to ODR

ok compare

Surround Me, Broken, Let Me Go, Justify and The Great Divide.
They are so different very different feeling and melodies.

Compare Broken Wings, Open your eyes, and see nothing just seems to stick with odr but with TGD it does.

I LOVE BOTH ALBUMS but I can remember very little lyrically about odr as I can remember every word of TGD for every song in order.

DO you get what I mean.

Re: The Great Divide vs. Alter Bridge

That's funny, I would say the compleat opposite to what you said...

I would say that TGD isn't that different... Stapp just seems to ride the wave of Creed while AB doesn't wish to do that...

Being a musician and a songwriter myself I would say that ODR is much better since Mark does not seem to use the same lyrrics over and over again as Stapp have done.

Compare Find The Real, Burn It Down, In Loving Memory, Shed My Skin and The End Is Here. They are so different, very different feeling and melodies...

I wouldn't say that if a melody sticks or if lyrrics stick that they are good, I hate having a song stuck in my head... That's one reason why I don't like TGD.

Well, I think Mark is way better with Myles and AB than he ever was with Creed...

Re: The Great Divide vs. Alter Bridge

well.. i'm going to have to say ODR is a fair amount better than TGD. and i have to say that i have a pretty easy time remembering the lyrics of ODR, although not quite as easily as i can with TGD... but i think that's only cus Stapp likes to repeat his lyrics over and over and over and over... and i must admit i love sitting in a class and zoning out metalingus or watch your words when they pop in my head even though nobody else can hear them haha. I will say TGD is easier to relate to and understand lyrically, but they're also very simple which isn't cool...

but it's not the lyrics that stick in my head the most, it's the guitar riffs and drumming which is FAR superior on ODR... which is in my mind the main imbalance between the two albums... the lyrics of each have pros and cons that kind of cancel each other out and makes choosing one over the other difficult imo... so it comes down to the music itself for me and that's where AB takes it.

Re: The Great Divide vs. Alter Bridge

One Day Remains
Great Lyrics 8/10
Great Vocals 9/10
Awesome Guitar Work 10/10

The Great Divide
Good Lyrics/ Seem repetitive in some places 7/10
Good Vocals/ Not Scott's best 7/10
Good Guitar Work 7/10

When I first heard ODR there were a few songs I liked straight away like Open Your Eyes
Broken Wings, Down to my last
and In Loving Memory. The others took a while to grow on me.
Now I like most of them except for a couple.
I feel the same for TGD, I like Justify, Broken, Surround me and The Great Divide. Maybe the
rest will grow on me. I will have to say that ODR overall is far superior but I do think
Scott and Mark made a bloody good duo and were a lot better together/no disrespect to Myles.
I just feel they compliment each other better.

I also feel(IMO) that TGD is a helluva lot catch-ier than ODR and sounds like a more thought-provoking record.

i agree on this post! i think Scott did a better job than Alter Bridge!

Re: The Great Divide vs. Alter Bridge

Let’s just say this

I did own ODR Mark really came out of his shell w/ his guitar work and I thought it was amazing however the lyrics blew goats for pesos and Kennedy’s voice just well let’s just say it’s about 2 octaves too high for good rock

now with TGD I got it gave it about 5 spins and sorry Stapp I am just not feeling the lyrics anymore I preferred the spiritual ambiguity and unsettledness over the overtly Christian lyric on TGD musically I felt it went more of the way of "don't stop dancing" rather than "Unforgiven" Needless to say this disc does not waste room in my binder or on my hardrive.

So I would have to say the over all products that both project have put out since the split are as follows

AB 4/10 (mind you the lony reason it scored this high was because of mark's growth as a guitarist)
SS 2/10

*note on my scale a cd has to be a 7 to be worth purchasing

Re: The Great Divide vs. Alter Bridge

Anarkist... You don't listen to any old school rock do you? If you did you'd see that a great rock musician should sing just right below the falsetto. And Myles is realy doing it. Myles is an tenor while Scott is a bass. Bass singers weren't that populare if you listen to some of the good old musicans. I mean, Myles can sing low no doubt about that. He's in class with Led Zepperlin for crying out loud!

Stapp on the other hand is in the class of Cobain... Not a very good class IMO.

But hey, it's just opinons on what you like

But seriosly... Don't you listen to any of the old school rockers?

Re: The Great Divide vs. Alter Bridge

yes as a matter of fact I do listen to Floyd I could never get in to Led Zep however I can appreciate them. I would hardly put Myles on that level.now if you want an amazing band with a high voiced singer RUSH but I cannot for the life of me stand Getty Lee's Voice thats why I don't listen to them often now if they just did non-vocal tracks I'd be all over it. I guess the fact of the matter is that I don't think Myles' voice compliments Marks playing at all.

just my $0.02

"Just my two cents worth" - is like
