I Need Your Opinion
Ok, Our family bought the house that my brother and I are living in. Well, the house is in our sister's name because the rest of us either didn't have good enough credit or didn't make enough to get the loan Anyways, my Mom, Dad, And sister were here for the weekend and wee have 3 neighbors interested in buying some of our land cuz we have 3 acres. Well we got into a huge fight because our sister considers the house hers when she hasn't paid a penny for any of the house payments or for the down payment or closing costs. My brother and I have paid for everything including what we put into the house to fix it up. My question is... Are my brother and I wrong for saying that the house is ares I would really be interested in anyones opinion on this

In my opinion, Julie, the house is more yours and your brothers. Unfortunately, if her name is on the paperwork, then legally it's her house. At least I think that's the way it works. You might want to have someone look at the papers.
I'm sorry this happened during your family's visit, Julie. That's a bummer.

Yeah, Julie, that sucks, that it happened during what was supposed to be a nice family visit, but unfortunately, because your sister's name is on the deed she has some legal rights. My guess is you wouldn't have the house if her name weren't on it, yes? I still would consider it more yours than hers because you are plunking down all the cash. I hope you guys can work it all out. Stuff like that can get tricky.

I agree with Sheila, unfortunatley if the papers say it is hers than legally it is I know it does not seem fair, but in a court of law that is how it would go! Is there any way you could work things out so you can stay there?

House is legaly hers. If she wants she can sell it or whatever, and there's nothing you can do about it. So try reasoning with her, cuz morally house is mostly yours, but it's paperwork that matters when it comes to papework.
P.S. she put more than a signature for that house. a) she put her credit history on the line. If you guy messed up with payments it's her who would had got into trouble B) she made it possible. if npt her that house would had never been yours.

You all have good points but I think if the house is hers then she should be pitching in on the payments to. My brother and I have been using are hard earned money for the payments on her house then and using are money to fix it up. We have put our heart and soul into this house when she has barely lifted a finger in the whole thing. If the house is ever sold my brother and I expect to get back what we have put into it.

Get that in writing, Julie, because legally, unless your name's on the deed, you may not be entitled to cent when and if it's sold. Does she live in the house? Or did she just do it so that you guys could live there? Sometimes family can get really weird when it comes to money.

No Dogstar my sister lives in Ohio. I know how my sister gets with money I on the other hand could care less about money but it would be nice to get back what I put in. But whatever happens happens I guess.

I agree, but as I said, families get weird about it. When one of my aunts died, my four cousins had a battle royal over the house, so much so, that two of them don't speak to the other two now, and it's been five or six years since she died. It's really sad to see that happen. I hope my parents spend every cent they have. I don't want to have to fight with my family over money, either. I'm sorry that's happening to you, Julie. I agree, it's not worth fighting over.

Ya, it is so not worth it I remember the last big fight our family had and it was because our sister was living with this jerkoff that beat her up several years ago and he hit her all the time and wouldn't leave him no matter what anyone told her I didn't talk to her for a long time. They got into a fight one night and he grabbed a fork and scraped it acrossed his chest and called the cops and told them that she did it to him, and she was arrested. It took him having her arrested for something that he did himself and him beating her to finally leave him. But the whole time she was with him we were always wrong and we were the bad ones because we didn't approve of him.
