Wasn't it that someone found it on the side of an old cave? Or that might have been something else...I don't know.

I thought Stapp designed it and then had the beltbuckle made to look like it. Can't remember if I read it, heard it, or made it up somewhere along the way...

im pretty sure it was an Indian Crest.... it is my guess that it stands for Love....cuz it looks like 4 Love symbols together/two hearts together....

Donīt you think they should have removed 1/4 of the crest when Brian left? hehe j/k
Coz at first I thought the meaning was they were 4 pieces, they were equal, but were really strong, they had a huge power when they got/were together...

Here's a link to one fan's research into the crest:

Long ago amongst my earliest creed info searches I was looking for the info on the creed crest, some people rumored that it was a custom native Indian American symbol for peace and unity. Scott Stapp actually has the crest as a belt buckle, this is something I searched for many a late night, I evan contacted certain people in search for the truth, but alas I could not find it... then came the discovery. Doing some research on Native Indian American tribes I found a group or tribe called the 'creek' Indian's apparently this somehow also related to some certain locations around the USA. Then I found that a translation of creek, or perhaps another pronunciation of the creek Indians was Infact 'Creed'. Well you could Imagine my delight when I found that out. As I searched through the history and locations of these creek Indians I learned of a certain place. Called 'Creek Canyon', I stumbled across this somewhere around 3am in the morning I needed to find it. I actually found also that there is more than one 'creek canyon'. However after some search I found some info on one called 'Indian Creek Canyon'. Or (Indian Creed Canyon). I was skeptical. But soon I learnt something about this canyon. The Canyon lies north and east of the Abajo Mountains. I've heard that somewhere before?. 'Abajo'. Yes of course! Earlier (soon after the Behind The Music feature on Creed aired) The band mentioned visiting the ruins of a church that Spanish missionary's had built in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The research I did then lead to dead ends. But the 'church' or what the missionary's were doing there was called 'the Abajo Mission'.

Is this Infact indicating that the Abajo Mountains and Indian Creek (Creed Canyon) is the place to look which is located in Utah home to more than 7000 identified carvings (I believe the most in any one location in the USA), there is something to be found?. A flood of ideas cascaded into my head. The origins of the creed crest could be revealed! But Instead I found something evan more amazing! read on my fellow seekers...

The Native American Symbol (Scott's Belt) on the left
The creed crest is a modified version of it (on the right).

<> I stand in awe...

My research took me deeper as I saw with my own eyes what I had just found I sat and starred, frozen I'm not sure how much time passed but the only thing I noticed was the chills down my spine. What had I found?. Rock art... and not just any rock art. Rock art that held a certain resemblance, actually a near perfect resemblance... the creed crest? No. Coordinates? no. I thought I would find the answers but instead this wicked tale was just ever spanning. Enough talk, see for yourself what I have found.

Ancient Native American rock art, strange figures.

Compare for yourself the two Images
The man on the CD is of course an image from above pictures of the symbols on Scott's Hand
(On the Cover of Weathered)

Do we now have a new place to search I asked myself?. As I processed through the evidence, conclusions were aplenty, but which were true. You will only find my thoughts and beliefs on this mystery if you read on! But I actually do Believe I wasn't meant to find this, The coordinates were obvious. I think this is for the future.. what do I mean? read on...

I think this is just one fan's research, might not be true. I've tried endlessly to find out the meaning, I have it tattooed on me for crying out loud, and this is the closest I've come.

Bear with me here groupies. It goes more into detail than the last post:

Except in Guitar World, April 2002, (by Gosh Marcos, here's your user name, I always thought that was your point on the earth. I am blond!! Is that where you got that?)there is a story about a Native American warrior legend tracking a killer grizzly bear. He is attacked by the bear and after almost being killed, he runs with the bear in hot pursuit. He swims across this lake, all along seeing this symbol glimmering on the lake. When he gets back to his chief, he tells him about it and draws it in the sand, so they bring in a blacksmith to make the formation from eight objects of steel, "each bearing the crest." The first is the brand, which is used to mark the shoulder of every warrior in the tribe. But the other seven are stolen before the tribe can take possession of them. Flash forward to the present. Somehow, the Seeker-whoever he may be-has recognized the crest in Creed's artwork and believes the band and its fans can lead him to the missing eight objects." The Seeker is the player of the mysertious game Creed made. The author researched this story..."Okay, none of this proves that the story of the warrior and the bear existed before Creed started their Quest. But it is worth noting that the crest itself is NOT something that Creed made up. As Mark explains, 'I can't give it away. But the crest was something that already existed before all this. It wasn't something created from our minds. It was a real thing.' "

So, in conclusion, "Down in Australia, the indefatigable Andrew (?) traced the Creed crest to the Abajo mountains in Utah, where some 7,000 Native American carvings can be found. And what was the tribe responsible for all those carvings? Most references give their name as Creek Indians, but as Andrew points out, 'Another pronunciation of Creek Indians was in fact Creed Indians.' Moreover Andrew (again, don't know who he is) claims that the Creed crest is definitely one of the Native American symbols carved into rock there in the Abajo mountains."

I like to think of it as the author in Marcos' copy does, a symbol of peace and unity. I'd love to go see the crest in Utah. Creedfest anyone?
