The Broken Hinge

Here's one I wrote about a two weeks ago. I will be the first to admit that this is probably the most bitter song I have ever written. It's a song about domestic violence and all the hurt it causes not just to the fighting spouses, but also to the kids who witness it. Domestic violence is an awful, horrible thing that no child should ever have to witness. The style of the song is different from what I usually write--it starts off with the chorus, builds into the first verse and then takes on a more traditional style.

"The Broken Hinge"(for lack of a better title)
Written by: titan9

Chorus:
What did you think as she went through the door?
What did you feel as she fell down the stairs?
What did you think as she lay broken on the floor?
Did you ever even care?
About what you had done
To the people you supposedly loved?

Verse 1:
18 years have passed
The broken hinge remains
Reminding everyone of the past
Of shame and pain
Acting like nothing ever went on
You carry on with life
But how can you look yourself in the mirror
And feel everything's alright?
How can you just leave all that guilt behind?
You did that dirty deed
You took advantage of her
Just another bad seed
Who had to feel in control

Chorus

Verse 2:
The unborn child was forced into violence
He had no choice
But you didn't care about him
The kid didn't have a voice
But that kid became a man
A man who grew to dispise you
He'll never fully understand
The sheer hell you put mom through
Still you sweep it all under the rug
Things are just fine, you tell yourself
But your endless circle of lies
Has caught up to you
A sick feeling deep inside
Reminds you of all the things you put them through

Chorus

Bridge:
The fights are long gone
Still the pain remains
All the things you did wrong
Haunt you to this day
For that
You have no one but yourself to blame
It is no one's fault but your own
Repent now or remain all alone

Wow, titan, nice job. This part made me so sad:

The unborn child was forced into violence
He had no choice
But you didn't care about him
The kid didn't have a voice

to be honest at first it was just like, oh another one of these but i really got into it. u just told a story i know that so many people could relate to. and its cool too that you didnt just focus on the deed itself but the after effects of what had taken place. great great work!!!

Yeah, I'm still surprised how this song came out of me. It started with that chorus and then it just kinda built on from there. When I sit down to do a song, I really don't have any idea how the song will go. The lines just kinda flow from me and those four lines weren't any different. But that probably is the saddest part of the song.

It's truly amazing how something I wrote could apply to so many people and their situations. This must be how all the recording musicians feel. It's very therapeutic for me to write these songs and I think the reward is getting it out of my system(and on paper) plus knowing that the song may help or may relate to a person's situation.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback!
