Music News

Dont know how many of you have read these, thought they would be of interest to a few.

Velvet Revolver Plan Concept Album

Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland has unvealed to MTV.com that the band's second album will be concept.

"It's something I've been wanting to do since the last STP album, since the Shangri-La Dee Da album [in 2001], and it never was completely realized," Weiland (formerly of Stone Temple Pilots) said. "You never know until you really completely get there, but it's going in that direction right now."

Weiland refused to reveal any details about the concept but said he and his bandmates have been writing for months.

"This album really has to make a statement," bassist Duff McKagan added. "We've toured for 18 months. Now we have a brand name. Now we know each other as a band. The first album was just us together at home, a spontaneous product. Now it's time to make that record."

There's no title or release date yet for the album, but McKagan said to expect it in spring.

Along with the follow-up to 2004's Contraband, Weiland is also working on the follow-up to his 1998 solo album, "12 Bar Blues", for which he has 25 songs written.

He intended to release the solo album a few years ago but joined Slash, McKagan, Matt Sorum and Dave Kushner in Velvet Revolver instead.

Though Audioslave just released the fourth single from this year's "Out Of Exile", they are already gearing up to record their third album. The rockers have already tracked a few songs for their third album with producer Brendan O'Brien, reports MTV.com. Brendan has produced or mixed most of the major rock bands of the past 20 years, including Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine.

Audioslave Recording New Album

"We've all worked with him before in our previous bands and we've already actually recorded a couple of songs with him for the new record and it was great," singer Chris Cornell said.

"He's an amazing guy, a great musician," added bassist Tim Commerford.

Audioslave have 20 songs written and will return to the studio in early January to finish recording them, according to Blabbermouth.net.

In other, non-musicial news, Audioslave drummer Brad Wilk married his girlfriend of 10 years, singer Selene Vigil of Seven Year Bitch, on Saturday, December 10. According to a spokesperson for Audioslave, the wedding was an "intimate" affair, attended by the couple's immediate family and held at Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe, California.

Metallica Shed Light Upon New Album

Metallica's official web site has been updated with a six-minute video message from the band regarding the group's recently completed shows with The Rolling Stones and the early songwriting session for the band's next studio album, tentatively due in late 2006. A few excerpts from the message follow, according to Blabbermouth.net:

Lars Ulrich: It was fun getting out of the house and playing a couple of shows, getting a little sweat going, and getting up and sharing some metal moments with our San Francisco friends. And there was a bunch of you guys that flew in from all corners of the country and the world, so we appreciate that. It was fun. And it kind of got us kind of back into the mode of being 'Tallica again, so we've been here [in the rehearsal room] ... kicking around the last couple of weeks, working on some new, uh… some new what? (looks at Hetfield)

James Hetfield: New metal.

Kirk Hammett: No, it's not 'nu' metal. It's metal.

James Hetfield: K-N-E-W. Knew metal. We knew metal, and still know metal.

Kirk Hammett: Actually, this is more like Jurassic metal.

James Hetfield: We have a lot of ideas. We just have to figure out which ones are good. That's all.

Lars Ulrich: We need some help. Maybe some of you guys can come join us and help figure that out.

James Hetfield: No.

Kirk Hammett: Or we're gonna flip a coin.

Robert Trujillo: We're actually in 'fiddle' mode right now. We're like fiddling with the ideas, kind of blueprinting them…

James Hetfield: We've got a fiddle on the next record.

Lars Ulrich: 'Metallica – next album will have a lot of fiddle on it' — headline on Blabbermouth. [The headline on Blabbermouth was just that phrase.]

James Hetfield: It's has been the best break — best break that I can remember. All the other breaks I don't remember. [Laughs] It was a great time hanging out at home. Just got really into being at home. It was really nice hanging out. We're pretty fortunate — we've got HQ here, we kind of show up when we want and we start writing some material. We live just down the street, so it's a pretty cool set-up.

Lars Ulrich: It's been so much fun the last couple of weeks getting back together, getting all creative again for the first time in a couple of years, and hanging with Rob and getting him involved in the writing process. It's been a lot of fun, we're all really psyched and going into the holidays with spunky spirit. We're looking forward to throwing a lot of shit at you guys next year and having some fun.
