Captain Kangaroo dies at age 76
Farewell, Captain. Bob Keeshan, who charmed kids as TV's Captain Kangaroo for 36 years — has died after a long illness. He was 76. On his iconic childrens' show, Keeshan played a gentle, grandfatherly man with a bowl haircut, whose "Kangaroo" nickname came from the deep pockets in his signature cardigan sweater. Over the years, he hung out with puppets, told knock-knock jokes and won six Emmys along the way.

Yeah, I saw that the other day on ESPN's "Around the Horn"... one of the regular "panel members", Woody Paige, dressed in tribute to Captain Kangaroo... good stuff

R.I.P., Captain...That show was a staple for me, especially when I was home sick from school...Kind of soothing...

I loved Captain Kangaroo, Mr. Green Jeans and the moose whose name escapes me. I loved that show and Dogstar is right, it was a staple of my childhood. He and Mr. Rogers are up in heaven now smiling down on a whole new generation of tv people trying to entertain today's youth. The Wiggles couldn't hold a candle to those 2.

Ya know, it's funny. I thought the guy was 76 when I was watching him decades ago ...He rocked, though.

I don't actually know him but by the sounds of things he sounds like he was a pretty cool guy, what illness did he have?

Dunno, Hayley. I can't remember if any of the stories specified what it was.

Oh. That's sad that he died from his illness, hope he died peacefully in his sleep, though. That sounds horrible *hoping* he died peacefully in his sleep, but you know it's better than the way that some people die.
Sorry, hope I didn't turn this thread into a death thread! lol
