SCOTT STAPP: 'I JUST CAN'T DRINK LIQUOR'

Stapp told us that some recent controversies, including a Thanksgiving Day bar fight with 311 and a drunken appearance on Spike TV's Casino Cinema, were the result of drinking too much, which he's taken steps to alleviate: "It involved alcohol, and it made me address a situation in my life and realize that I'm just one of those people that just can't drink liquor, man. You know, I can understand people, like, 'Okay, what's up with this guy?' But they were just some stupid mistakes, man, that, you know, I wish I could have back. But all I can do is keep looking forward, man." Stapp, who also suffered a past addiction to the painkiller OxyContin, entered rehab after the Spike TV episode in December and has remained sober since. Stapp is scheduled to be married for the second time on February 10th. He has a seven-year-old son from his first marriage. Stapp kicks off a tour to promote his debut solo album, The Great Divide, on February 23rd in Orlando, Florida. According to 311's account, a drunken Stapp instigated the scuffle, first verbally and then physically. Stapp admitted to us that he was drunk, but says the blame for the incident should be shared: "We were all celebrating and it just got out of hand. That's it man, you know. With the 311 fight, I don't want to get into the details of that. I regret that it happened. But had the same things gone on sober, it would've happened sober." 311 rapper Doug "SA" Martinez, who said Stapp insulted his wife, wound up with a broken wrist from the fight and had to perform for several weeks in a cast. Stapp went into rehabilitation for alcoholism in December, following the fight and a drunken appearance on Spike TV's Casino Cinema program. Same here. I think if he has someone to hold him accountable on tour(his sobriety coach) he'll be able to stay clean.
