That sucks. Man, I loved Hail to the Thief. I hope they don't take too long a break. I really like them!

I hope they don't take too long of a break say 2 years or so between albums, sure there are plenty of good acts that are not getting their break but that is largely the fault of the record companies who keep signing what is hot at the moment.
After the grunge scene similar acts were signed and the result was Bush, Collective Soul, Silverchair, Creed etc; after Creed's success then bands like The Calling, Default, Theroy of a Deadman got signed and now we have the bands that labels see as their version of the White Stripes eg; Jet, Strokes etc:

Sounds as if Thom might be sick of all the corporate BS...I hope it's not really long, either.

I don't think he's alone with been sick of all of that crap but if he still has the love for making music then I don't see any reason for an extended break.

Me either, but then again, it was a pretty long time between albums the last go-round wasn't it? Maybe they just need a break from touring. They've been going full-on for a few months now, right? I mean, heck, I saw them in August and they're still playing...He seems to just do his own thing, so who knows? I just hope he still has the fire in him to make music.

Maybe we're just reading too much into the quote, they'll take some time off and make another good album to be released in 2 or so years.

I'd rather have White Stripes, Jet, Strokes etc. step out. Between those 3, Jet's the only one with talent musically, but their singer is annoying.

I don't know Jet, but I'm not a fan of the others. Radiohead rocks, though. They were awesome live.

I'm not a huge radiohead fan because well, my knowledge is a bit limited, but what I have heard from them really interested me in it's not genaricness( I know, that not a word). I have always been a little reluctant on buying any of there albums, so what to start off with? However, beside the point, most bands take two years off from making an alum so what the singer said to me sounded just normal. Hell, metallica from 1991's black album took 5 years off to 1996, then 7 years from re-load to st. anger. Tool, another band took five years from aenima to lateralus. And for what I hear the next album won't hit till 2005.

Hide, I would start with Pablo Honey, The Bends (this is their best commercial success) and OK Computer...the later stuff got pretty experimental, but if you're into that, there is Kid A (which I love), and Amnesiac...Also, Hail to the Thief (their latest) claims to have gone back to their roots, but I think it still on the more experimental side..I love it tons, though. And it was awesome live.
I'm gathering you meant not generic? That's true...It's a different sound. Trippy, but really pretty, IMO...and bad-ass lyrics. Good, good stuff.

i assume you meant to address this to musicmind instead of me but good advice. I would say OK Computer is the pinnacle of their career but Pablo Honey is probably the best place to start. They were much more of a generic band then and this has that great song "Creep". Only get Kid A or Amensiac if you really like the other albums.
