Drinking only hurts your liver if you drink too much - i.e. alcoholic!

I agree with Lechium. You don't smoke 20 joints a day habitually. Friends of mine who smoked a lot of weed didn't even come close to the amount of cigarettes smoked by an average smoker. I've also never seen someone pick fights while high, drunk on the other hand leads to it far more often, yet it's seen as ok in this society. You also dont go grab your father's gun and shoot your friend's head off. Sounds like Steve has been taking some anit-drug ads a little to seriously.
I really don't get the 'peer pressure' or 'they asked me if I wanted one' thing. It's really quite easy to say no, that is unless you're a weak individual. I have friends who smoke, and I have no problem with that. They also, as friends, have no problem with me not smoking. My mother also smokes and that made me NOT want to smoke. I just dont get it. (OMG Legalise it! Smoke weed 24-7! LOLLERS!~!) |

Moderation is the key, but that's hard to do with something as addicitive as smoking cigarettes is. My parents smoked for years and as a kid, I hated the smell of tobacco. Just grossed me out to the point that I never ever wanted to smoke cigarettes. I hated all the dirty ash trays and the stale smell in the air after my folks had a party. All I wanted to do was open every window in the house to get rid of that smell. Both have since quit, thank God. My dad finally quit after he had a minor stroke that scared the crap out of him. My mom quit cold turkey and we took a vacation on all the money she would have spent on cigarettes. I have yet to try a tobacco cig...but weed, on the other hand....
Inhaling smoke is never good for the body, but I have no problem with an occasional j. And Hayley, I would never think less of you for smoking. I just worry about your long-term health. I hope it doesn't escalate into a packs-a-day habit. There are so many ill effects of smoking cigarettes.

Steve, I can totally relate; my dad died of lung cancer when I was 19; his started in his lungs, then spread to his brain and collarbone. It was hard seeing my dad, who I remembered being thin but strong, turn into a weak ailing man... to top it off, my mom smoked for 39 years before quiting, but it was too late for her; she has emphysema so bad that she's on oxygen 24 hrs. a day, and we've almost lost her a couple of times.... after all this, guess what?? My brother still smokes!!!!!!!! Thankfully, I was never tempted to start, peer pressure never got to me, I just said NO! I would urge anyone who smokes (or chews tobacco - Ahem Scott Stapp! ) to stop, and anyone who doesn't smoke but is thinking about it because of peer pressure, please rethink and think again, for your health and the health of those around you! PEACE....

Lech, walking down the street can be damaging to your health, but it's very different to deliberately putting a cigarette in your mouth and breathing in its poison.

I really dont see any reason for smoking, at least marijuana gets you high, so ican understand doing that more than just smoking(although i dont think you should try either). I've been able to easily stay away from drugs, smoking, and drinking even though i knew that I could get it at school whenever i wanted. Its simple to say no, i dont see why you could catch on from friends or whatever. My friends smoke and drink but they know i don't so they respect me enough to not smoke when im around because i cant stand the smell. I've gotten into fights with them about this and they told me the same thing "im gonna die anyway, why not just enjoy life?" i kind of understand where they come from with that, but then i explain to them how i dont think smoking and getting drunk is fun at all. I've seen the effects of drinking and smoking far too well to even think about picking up a cigarette, taking a sip of beer, or whatever else comes up when im hanging out with my friends. One of my friends who used to play soccer and was great cant play as well as he used to, so now im convincing him to quit doing all the shit he does. he's quitting smoking and drinking , but hopefully he can get back from what damage was already caused.
