We almost lost Grandpa yesterday!!
For those of you who don't know, my Grandpa had a massive heart attack on New Year's Eve and he has been in and out of the hospital ever since twice for his lungs filling up with fluids and a few more for breathing problems all as a result of the doctor sending him home way to early in the first plac
This last time Grandma had a cold and Grandpa caught it and his lungs filled up with fluid again Early yesterday one of my Aunt called and said that his hands were blue and that he was dying, so we rushed over to the hospital where he is and he had a breathing cap attached to his face because he isn't getting enough oxygen to his lungs My Grandpa has smoked for years and he has emphezyma (sp) and COPD on top of all of this. While we were all at the hospital I went in to see him and he waved to let me know that he knew I was there, but the entire day his blood pressure would either drop or get really high and he had a catheter and he hadn't passed any urine for most of the day, so they thought that his kidneys had quit working as well. One time when I went in to see him, they had taken the breathing mask off to give him his meds and he was just breathing extremely heavy and he had a hard time taking the medicine. We could tell the mask wasn't very comfortable for him but he had to have it on to help him breathe. When my dad, his girlfriend, and I went to leave at around 10 pm he had finally passed some urine and today the nurses were taking the breathing mask off in little spurts to see how he does breathing on his own. So those are some good signs but he has a long way to go before he gets better. I just hope those stupid doctors don't send him home to early again so we have to go through this again. So please keep him and our family in your prayers!! Thanks!

Re: We almost lost Grandpa yesterday!!
Thank you all so much for your prayers!
I guess the doctors have him as stable as he is going to get right now but he seems to be getting better slowly. He will need to have a home heath aide come in now though once they send him home for the rest of his life. However much longer that may be. I'm hearing that it could be days, weeks, or months. No one knows. Grandma was telling some family members that she feels that it may be his time to go, as much as she would hate to lose him. We will just have to see how it goes for now. I went in to see him several times on Friday and he was a grayish color and the few minutes they had the breathing mask off for him to take his meds, he was just gasping for air. It was hard to see him like that and I didn't really know what to say to him except for "Hi Grandpa", so he would know that I was there. He could tell who was in the room but he couldn't say anything with the mask on. He is talking a little bit now but only a few words at a time and he sat up for a few minutes and then he laid back down when he felt like he needed to today. Dad said that there was some drama today between some of the family members but that usually happens when everyone gets together no matter what the circumstances are Some of them just can't help themselves I guess.

Re: We almost lost Grandpa yesterday!!
We went back to the hospital tonight to see my Grandpa, and my cousin, my Aunt Marilyn, and I went own to the cafeteria to get away from my egotistical, pompus, ass of an Uncle and we were talking and she told us flat out that Grandpa more than likely will never leave the hospital. Meaning that eventually we are going to lose him. The doctor are doing everything they can for him but he still has whatever virus he had when he went in last week and they have him as stable as he is going to get, wich really makes me sad.
No one knows how much longer he has, except for God but my grandpa is a good person and none of us want him to suffer like he has been.He talked to me for a few minutes when I was in his room tonight and then he fell asleep.

Re: We almost lost Grandpa yesterday!!
Thank you Kerri
I stayed with my Aunt Tuesday night and Grandpa was actually doing better, he has been improving all week and yesterday my Aunt and Grandma were going to meet with someone about what they need to have at the house in order for him to be released. I swear that my Grandpa has 9 lives like a cat, lol. He was still not eating much the last I knew though and once he is released he will need round the clock care for awhile. Grandma won't be able to handle taking care of him on her own and he still needs some sort of an oxygen machine.

Re: We almost lost Grandpa yesterday!!
Thankyou Stef Yes it is a relief, although they are going to need to have someone there at all times now because Grandma can't take care of him by herself. My Grandpa can be a handfull and he is pretty stubborn as well. He will try to do things that the doc says not to and Grandma won't be able to stop him from doing it either.
My dad stayed with them last night to make sure that everything went ok, and my Aunt's are taking turns staying as well.
