Chad Kroeger vs. Alex Band

If any of you have Santana's new album "Shaman" then you know Chad Kroeger (Nickelback) sings vocals to the song "Why Don't You And I." Recently Santana rerecorded the same song with singer Alex Band (The Calling), made a video for it, and has released it to radio as the 3rd single. Does anyone know why Chad Kroeger's version got scratched from radio play? Which singer's vocals do you like better?

Chad's version got scratched due to issues with RoadRunner Records (Chad's label). The label did not allow Santana's label to release the song with Chad on it as a radio single. No reason was given, but speculation lies with the fact that if the single makes it big on the radio then it will get overplayed, in effect making people furtherly sick of Nickelback... and since Nickelback is coming out with a new album in September, they'd rather save the hype for that. Again that is just speculation though (it's a fact though that the label wouldn't let the song be released).

Personally, I've never heard the Alex Band version of the song. The pop radio station here plays the one with Chad on the radio! Funny how that works, eh?

Well I know why the label would be worried about overplay of Nickelback early on if that is the case. It seems where I live they played "How You Remind Me" every other song when it first came out. Personally, I think Chad's vocals fits the style to the song better than Alex's. You should at least hear it when the video hits tv. I think it was shot near/around the Golden Gate Bridge or something. I don't think Santana changed much (if anything) to the song that I can tell. Maybe small details.

p.s. Haven't heard about a new Nickelback album in Sept. until you brought it up. Do you know anything else about it?

The name of the first single off the album has been released. I can't remember it though. It should hit radio in August. There's an article on MTV.com about it if you search for Nickelback.

Yeah I found the article you're talking about. It talks about their upcoming album "The Long Road" coming Sept. 23...

Never heard of Chad's version and I really don't the Alex Band version. It just doesn't sound right for some reason.

Roadrunner sucks IMO...They did nothing to promote Jerry Cantrell's latest solo effort. Grrrr. It doesn't surprise me that they would find another way to stifle creativity.

...im sorry if that ^ offended anyone....but i have had that bottled up since i heard the Alex B Version on the radio....i love chad and the rest of the guys of nickelback.... chad deserves credit for that song...and no matter what the credits in the Cd says...he wont get it...
