You need to have that much free in your harddrive (the physical device in which all information is saved and programs are stored.) to make sure that the computer runs properly. They are not complicated at all, at the most you just need to memorize a handfull of acronyms to get by on it. The majority of the problems that a lot of people encounter are repetative, making it easy to learn how to troubleshoot (fix) them. I strongly suggest that you, or anyone for that matter, take a computer course of fixing them. High schools offer them because they make great nets for "at risk" students. Community centers and libraries offer them like every summer. I know the library by my house does, its done so for several years now. I used to volunteer doing that back in high school.
