Dream theater are one of those bands you either like or you don't. I think alot of it has to do with how mathematical the music is with more time signatures than father times address book. Plus, I think alot of people have general attention spans that last only so long because of the sheer length of dream theaters songs. I mean, a short song from them would last 6 min.
Also, six dregrees of inner turbulence is a killer album as well.
