The Bird Lady

The Bird Lady

She feeds the birds
From the bench in the park
Her own private perch
To watch the world go by
The birds flock to her
Accepting her offering
Of sunflower seeds and corn
Including her
As a mother figure
She feeds them…

She feeds herself as well
On mem’ries of love long past
Lovers walk hand in hand
Into a future that only they will know
And the children play
With an innocent
Freedom unfettered
By adult rules…
Too young to contemplate life
After a day in the park…

The bird lady
Has seen it all…
A watcher without judgment
On any life but her own
The passing seasons
Run together after a while
Disappearing …just as she has
Into the fabric of the familiar…
The only ones that notice
Are the birds

You will forever remain the music
And I…the song you sing
