Humm no, Mars Volta IS hard to swallow, trust me. For any one. That's kinda their point. Long chaotic songs with no standard structure, and such. Has nothing to do with my taste, it's just a very confusing record.
However albums I mentioned above will help someone to get aquanted with more basic stuff these guys did in ATDI, that would help to get a grasp on Mars Volta.
