Syd Barrett was a great songwriter, but he did way too much acid. If you read about the history of Pink Floyd, David Gilmour basically replaced Syd Barrett after he more or less went nuts. There are all kinds of strange thing you can read about Syd Barrett having done. The Pink Floyd song "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was written about Barrett after he left the band.
