congrats! that's awesome news!
you're right in saying the father has a commitment; but it shouldn't be to whatever other woman is in his life. it should be to you. perhaps i'm just naive, but it seems irresponsible to be uninvolved in the life of one's own child. in the very least, he should know so he can make that decision.
