some Pearl Jam news

The Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Recording Academy will honor Pearl Jam, vocalist Ernestine Anderson, conductor James DePreist and Bumbershoot festival founder Norm Langill with its 2004 IMPACT awards. The honor recognizes individuals based in the region who have made significant contributions to the area's music scene.

The awards will be handed out April 9 at a ceremony at the Westin Hotel in Seattle. Several of the honorees will perform at the event, including Anderson, while former Bachman-Turner Overdrive pianist Norm Durkee and El Vez will honor Langill.

It was unclear at deadline if members of Pearl Jam would perform in some fashion. The band has been on a break since a handful of fall 2003 benefit shows and will return to the recording studio later this year.

At the event, a silent auction and VIP reception will raise funds for the Pacific Northwest Chapter's ongoing efforts to promote music advocacy and professional development programs. For more information, call 206-834-1000 or email [email protected].

Mike McCready (lead guitar) also played the national anthem recently and was part of the Jimi Hendrix tribute. You can hear his rendition of the anthem at www.pearljam.com or www.theskyiscrape.com. At theskyiscrape you can also download the concert which featured guests including Chris Cornell. Cornell at this concert plays "Like A Stone" solo performance, ditto for "Can't Change Me" and Temple of the Dog tunes such as Hunger Strike and Reach Down. Jack Johnson makes an appearance during Betterman!
